Mr Obama has ordered all guided public tours closed indefinitely. According to the Blaze,
www.theblaze.com...
“The White House announced Tuesday that it was canceling all public tours of the president’s home because of the sequester spending cuts. “Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House Tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013 until further notice. Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours,” the White House said in an email.”
Never before in history has the White House Public guided tours been cancelled due to budget cuts.
But it gets worse, a lot worse. Senator Paul questioned Attorney General Eric Holder about drone attacks on American citizens on U.S. soil. www.foxnews.com...
Here is Holders chilling naivete response,” “It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States," Holder said. Holder said '"catastrophic" attacks such as the Sept. 11 attacks or the attack on Pearl Harbor are examples of circumstances where the president could conceivably feel such an action is necessary.”
So Mr. Holder is inferring that U.S. citizens were responsible for the attacks on Pearl Harbor and New York City? And this would constitute drone attacks on U.S. citizens! That’s preposterous!
Senator Paul states,” “The U.S. Attorney General’s refusal to rule out the possibility of drone strikes on American citizens and on American soil is more than frightening, it is an affront the Constitutional due process rights of all Americans.”

So, if he can't run his own home's budget where he can find some tour guide money out of over 3 trillion in available funds...after just 85 billion in cuts? Umm... guys... We trust these people to help run OUR household finances and plans? Errr....and we wonder why we're in a world of hurt and misery?

Obama is doing this only for show. The White House is immune from the sequestration cuts.

And it's 44 billion, not 85.

Just had a quick question. What would the american public do/say when the first american citizen is killed on US soil due to a drone attack?

Cancelling White House tours is just another punishment for the people. This whole sequester thing is a complete political stunt designed to get the extra tax increase he wants. The build up of ammo and supplies shows they obviously have plenty of our money to spend already.

As far as drone strikes on US soil, it’s only a matter of time. The gates of hell have opened and are beginning to swallow this country whole (figuratively speaking).

I think it’s time I get off ATS for good…I’m giving it serious consideration.

I'd love to see the link you came up with those numbers by. In the time I've been looking into this, I've never seen a number THAT low. Not even remotely close. The FULL program, if allowed to run it's course, is more like 100+ billion per year or so, and coming over multiple years. We're just assuming it won't run the full course. Of course, we all assumed it wouldn't come to THIS, too. Assuming is a bad thing, eh?

I would like to have quoted from this, but the PDF copy/paste seems screwy today. Anyway.. this is a raw break down of some of the numbers in the actual written material for what has just been done. 44 billion is a start..but only the opening start.

Some simple facts about Sequestration

By the way... IT'S ALL FOR SHOW. That's the whole point. Sequestration would have been written with a % or amount to cut per Department and let them find HOW to make that cut without restriction or suggestion. THAT would be the way to make cuts. In this case, the White House has literally line itemed the damn thing, in many cases, to INSURE as painful a set of initial cuts as humanly possible, given the dollars in play. The White House nonsense for tours is just another way of sticking it in the eye of the public for not bending to the will of the President.

Personally, I think Obama is acting like a whiny little brat who didn't get his way....and it's telling when even Dems in politics are starting to say the same thing ..albeit it in nicer terms.

(The above link also shows what programs are off limits to this... quite a few are, thank goodness.)

According to the CBO, the 2013 cuts are 44 billion.

Here is a good article explaining things. The 85 billion is more hype and fear mongering which this White House attempts to try and capitalize on every chance they get. They want the public to be punished and impacted as much as possible during this.

44 million in cuts.

Depends on whether or not the government media report it ad nauseum or sweep it under the rug. Which again depends on who is in the White House at the time.

I hope that you don't retire from ATS. You bring a lot to the table.

But I think I understand if you do.

It's a typical socialist tactic. It's all scripted. Crisis, Reaction and Solution.

And idiots keep buying it.

You do understand the Congressional Budget Office issues reports, not policy, right? I read the inital pages of the report and that told me enough to suggest you do the same. It's an estimate based on conditions in December and laws in effect at the end of Dec and Start of January. Those are, among others, the working assumptions the data was produced by.

The whole purpose of the CBO is to take whatever members of Congress feed them for data and then return, without prejudice or preconception, what the numbers would look like given those inputs. It can be a WHOLE budget that is eventually passed as offered ...in which case a CBO document package is valuable and accurate. Or...99% of the time, it's data for evaluation and returned for impact on a proposed law or change.

Given the source, without the full reporting document to read for context and purpose of the report to use that number I can't say much except that it's the first and only place I've seen a 40 billion figure and I've been into this now for a long time, reading and trying to understand the overall picture of what is happening in our nation.

(as a ..for instance here.. What precisely did the law Obama actually SIGNED the other night say and specify, as opposed to the data sets handed to CBO to produce that report? The devil is always in the details and as stated in the report's opening pages (CBO reports all do) it shows data sets used date back a couple to a few months)

Man when are the people going to wrestle this corrupt government back into their hands? There is no reason the White House had to cancel tours because of the sequester. This is absurd!

Of course it could be something far more sinister. With public tours being canceled, there is no chance that someone could accidently overhear some planning to institute some new draconian policy that the Obama Administration cooks up.

Our man Rand Paul has held them up now for 4 hours with an old fashioned
fillibuster...and he is still going!

Apparently Harry Reid did not file paperwork allowing it to be brought to an end
by a vote!

I've been on one of those White House tours. There's really not much to see. Some plates on a wall, some paintings. You really only get to see a few rooms on the first floor. It's not really exciting. I found The Palace of Versailles to be a much more interesting tour.

It was years ago when I went to the WH, but back then they had a list of prohibited items. On that list of banned items was "Nunchucks". This tells me that under Clinton, someone must have tried to bring a pair of nunchucks into the White House.

There are so many other cool things to see and do in DC anyway. The Old Ebbit Grill was pretty fun, good oysters.
