Ahhh, I see you're employing the "5 D's of Debating"

Duck
Dogde
Deflect
Divert
Deflect

Did we read the same OP?

In it I saw nowhere any glamorizing or calling other world leaders saints or praising them, in fact I didn't see anything mentioned about anyone else.

I read a thread talking about the leader of a country who wanted everyone to be equal, except for himself...he just wanted to be a little more "equal".

How does anyone make 2 billion dollars in personal wealth?

What's the difference between this guy and any other? Cause he ran a country?

Good gawd man, our politicians are guilty of far worse crimes than just skimming off the top.

So what your saying is that because other "leaders" have engaged in criminal activity, as long as their crime was worse, Chavez' actions are justified?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless of which side of the political spectrum you place yourself, isn't stealing wrong?

This could also be misinformation from the West to try and control who replaces him. The source does seem a trifle well informed. What? They have immediate access to his bank books and of course to the Govt books as well!

Come on! The guys only been dead a week or so and suddenly we know all these financial details that we did not know before.

If the West had this information even a month ago they would have released it then in an effort to destabilize his Govt.

A bit of critical thinking please.

What you have here are rumours.

Well, there are honest ways and dishonest ways, legal and illegal, but...

What's the difference between this guy and any other? Cause he ran a country?

To answer your question, yes, it is entirely because he ran a country.

Let me ask you a question, of all the other billionaires out there, how many of them had the benefit of being an elected dictator who was able to nationalize their number 1 resource and then"skim off the top"?

From FlyersFan post on the first page: Post

Nearly $30 billion is missing from a Venezuelan national development fund controlled by President Hugo Chávez, who appears to have diverted some of the missing money to his political allies in other countries, while much of the rest remains unaccounted for.

The money came from a $69.4 billion fund for development aid, known as Fonden, which is designed to take public money, largely from Venezuela’s state-run oil company and its Central Bank, and use it on domestic development projects such as highways, schools, factories and hospitals.

For years in Venezuela, critics of the president have nicknamed Fonden “Chávez’s slush fund.” Information only now becoming public shows that is not far off the mark: El Fondo de Desarrollo Nacional, as it is formally known, operates outside the Venezuelan National Assembly’s budget process and largely beyond public scrutiny, answerable only to a board of directors and to Chávez himself.

Why didnt this info come out months ago. All of a sudden. Sorry just for media trying to portray the man as a tyrants. When the same news sources talk about Hugo Chavez as a bad man but yet agreed with everything Bush was saying. I'm not trusting the info. everything is so misleading nowadays that thinking for yourself is unheard of.

An institute in Miami came up with this eh? And Hugo had so many wealthy friends there to. How sweet the taste of choice wine on a favorable tongue.

This seems like the most relevant Chavez topic ATM.

I'd like all those that don't like Chavez to listen to the song I'm including in this post. The entire song is fairly relevant to today, and the part to pay attention to is near the end. I will include the lyrics following the song:

Who let'em overthrow Jacobo Arbenz
Who let'em overthrow Mohammad Mosaddeq
Who let'em assassinate Salvador Allende
I didn't let them but they did it anyway
Who let'em overthrow Kwame Nkrumah
Who let'em overthrow Aristide
Who let'em assassinate Oscar Romero
I didn't let'em but they did indeed!

Don't let them assassinate Hugo Chavez
Don't let them assassinate Evo Morales
Bring back Martin, Malcolm, Medgar,
Hampton, Goodman, Schwerner, Chaney

It really is a good song, conspiracy people ought to really like it. It's catchy to boot as well. I've never had good luck when I post these things, so even if you have an argument -- let me know! It's only 5 minutes of your time (and you can browse ATS at the same time!)

Get at me.

What, as opposed to building an Empire and averaging a war every 20 years? Did Venezuela go to Vietnam and kill millions of people? No they did not. Iraq? Afghanistan? Korea? The list goes on and on.

I'm guessing you hold the same judgement for all world leaders? Or just the ones that you "think" are bad? I love Orwells double think, and this thread explains it clearly. If you honestly think Chavez was a worse leader than any of the recent US presidents or say, Prime Ministers of Israel, you are sadly mistaken.

For Christakes think for yourself! It's like watching a pair of hands in somebody's head constantly massaging their brain telling them not to trust their own judgement. Everything is upside down. Chavez who opposed Global Bankster rule is called a dictator meanwhile we have EO's here going out the whazzo in the US. Ever heard of NDAA? NDRP? Patriot Act? CISPA? Any of those ring a bell? All of this just stinks.

Well, good 'ole Hugo aint yet " a rottin' in the coffin" and they're dishing the dirt...
He's gone from hero to zero in less than 24 hours.
If all this is true, especially funding the FARC, then there needs to be an inmendiate investigation into his family's wealth and his terrorist contact's, not to mention his friendship with Evo Morales.

How in the name of sweet Jesus can a country loose nearly 30 BILLION dollars, and nobody ask's questions until it's to late....

Socialism, communism, at the end of the day it always ends the same, as George Orwell wrote in Animal Farm - "ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS".

Please, watch this if you haven't.

I'm not willing to debate on this for two reasons. 1, I can't debate
and 2, My mind is made up. Just watch the video.

Was thinking along those lines myself.
The guy isn't even cold and they suddenly publish this? They didn't know this weeks, months, years ago? If they had this info and knew about it - AND COULD PROVE IT - they'd have printed it years ago to try and topple him, not wait until he is dead.

As it is, it just looks like a smear campaign by his opposition and their CIA backers. They must be itching to get back in there now he is gone and start robbing the place again.

I bet the Koch brothers assisted in some way to his wealth.

There must be some sort of kickback for the subsidies they got from Chavez...

There's a phrase in Spanish, Britguy, and its a universal phrase used in every Spanish speaking country in the world, and it goes -
"Mejor malo conocido que bueno pa conocer".
This is literally the spanish version of "better the devil you know".

You dont think in the last 50 years they could'nt have taken Fidel out as well??, Of course they could, but its bettter to have and old predictable enemy in your way than an unknown who's actions are unpredictable.

Sometimes it's best to maintain the status quo and dont rock the boat 'til you have to.

Um .. no. It has been known for a long while now that the oil money has been missing from the Venezuelan oil profits .. the profits that Chavez put himself in charge of. And it's been known for a long while now that he most likely has $2 Billion in personal wealth. This isn't new.

A bit of critical thinking please.

Right back atchya.
