This article was on the front page a while ago concerning hip hop and private prisons, if anyone's interested, www.hiphopisread.com...
to me when i read this, even if you say it's not a valid source or whatnot, it still makes a lot of sense considering how #ty rap got in the 90's, early 2000's. Now there's a lot of new groups rapping about consciousness and soul, their making a difference and our gen isn't gonna start for # like this.

I read somewhere that Fema is working with prisoners... Can they send them outside into some prisoner colony, for an example?

It's already here isnt it?
Aren't they the money behind stopping Marijuana legalization?

Also this is one of those areas I like to bring up to the
Church of ATS that the Saint Paul's. As in Ron and Rand.
would say "absolutely" to these prisons, and to work camps
and to horrendous conditions.

Profit prisons strictly for African Americans? Sure !
(like many are now because of the way the system is rigged
You know if you are black and steal a TV, 10 years in prison;
Oh you embezzled 5 million and are white? Tsk tsk Probation)

The Pauls always being the voice of "No regulations"
would say "who are we to tell these Godlike corporations
what to do?"
The only thing that's free in their world is the market.
And certainly no bad could come of that.

No wonder so many new laws keep getting passed!

How many laws can you remember and keep straight in your head so as to assure yourself that you will not break any? How about 40,000? That’s just the number of new laws enacted in the United States for 2012 alone!

This is exactly the issue what is wrong with 'capitalism' and 'individualism' - also the moment one criticizes it one becomes a 'commi'.
Money has no conscience. 100$ can buy food, fuel, rent, a prostitute, drugs or a prison. common sense is legislated away and as long there is unchecked profits to be made there will be incentives to 'invent' new crimes' etc.
What our world has to find is a new understanding of community. Where we again become a people and identify as a people. Where the WHOLE of us shares the wealth of its nations and shares its responsibilities. We all know it 'costs' to keep people in prison. So do we want to have more people in prison so that a few can make profit for themselves? I am not about to start a rant for socialism or communism. We need something new! A common unity and ownership defined as a stewardship for the common good of all. We have to begin to understand that the happiness and equality of all people ensures us safety. And if wealth is not distributed evenly, and the have not begin to seek an income outside the law, than no matter how we much more criminalize each action, it will only get worse. Pvt prison systems are finally showing us how far we have been led 'willingly' into the abyss.

Don't blame Capitalism. As I posted before: this is Capitalism Perverted.
This is Capitalism without moral responsibility or the boundaries of decency.
To make money from the forcible incarceration of people is sick. Anyone with a shred of common sense can see this is inviting GROSS human rights violations.

There is no such thing as capitalism vs capitalism "Perverted". This is the same as the many religious factions that debate their Bible. IF ANY idea, philosophy, religion or what ever can be twisted either way, then this IDEA. is the problem. The same Bible that the Quakers use for non-violence is also used by the KKK and other Hate organizations.
As I quoted in my original post:

We need something new! A common unity and ownership defined as a stewardship for the common good of all.

And it is neither communism or socialism or any other way but an understanding as to WHO we as humans are and what our role on this planet is.
To simply call it "Capitalism Perverted" is not the answer. Capitalism is in place pretty much since a good few 100 years and has done "F*** ALL" for mankind other than a few. Not to say that communism has either. Pretty much "nothing" has worked since the past maybe 10,000 or so years. Neither in religion, neither in politics or in economics. So why do we humans of all species screw things up over and over again? This is the real question!
Naturally each time I remind people that after all we are nothing but a "Naked Ape" I get all kinds of Flak. All other species on the planet manage to have an equality. Either ALL eat or ALL starve. And people always claim that nature is "brutal". It is a constant survival. Yes it is but not among the same species. Sure each species is for another "lunch" one way or the other. But only we humans are the worst enemies to ourselves! There is a hell of a difference between one pack of wolves defending its territory against another pack, verso OUR ways of inflicting war, genocide, hunger and in-equality to each other.
And all this is possible ONLY, because of some brain dead assumption of superiority, philosophy, religion and economic principles as "capitalism" and such ideas as a "free market", "global economy" etc.
Any professional in no matter what profession has his "Procedure Manual" and things go well as long the person sticks to the "RTFM" rule. But the moment when an idea can be "interpreted" any which way one "believes", things go damn wrong.

I see nothing wrong with prisoners working to pay back the American tax payer, or the Prisoners having to work to pay for their keep.

If the profits from the prison fund the prison, put some money in the prisoner's pocket for when they are released or to help support a family or child, I have no issue with.

I agree with everything you have written, and i find for-profit prisons extremely troubling.

And as reply to post by rayuki

mentioned in his post with the graph, the instances of probation has also skyrocketed. Like prisons, most probation companies are private companies, but they are run by officers. The court employes these private companies to take the load, and keep people financially in the system (in lieu of "jail"). On top of the court fines, there are monthly probation fines, randoms drug tests, and other requirements enacted by the courts that are terms of probation tht directly aid in private profit (usually), from counseling, to classes, to "treatment." And since there are so many "rules" involved, a simple traffic ticket can be a "violation." People are put on probation, sometimes, for simply traffic violations.

I've seen people put on probation and get community service for running a stop sign! It's an almost endless slavery.

That said, what i would like to know, and have not looked into it, is, if these are private prisons—contracted by the state and operate for profit, do MY tax dollars go to these corporations to house and pay for the prisoners??

THAT is the problem I have.

The moral and ethical decay of our society is imminent—and happening— and most of us are apathetic.

Because we have our "security."

This is sickening.

I don't know why I'm bothering to reply to this here, it's not an issue that can be resolved on this thread. And your response is seriously confused:

“All other species on the planet manage to have an equality. Either ALL eat or ALL starve.” is obviously FALSE.

Most individuated life forms are selfish “me first” creatures. Not all creatures share their kill. This selfishness increases the likelihood of the species surviving. There may not be enough water or food for the entire colony to survive, but if just one male & one female survive, there’s the chance a new colony can be started after the drought.

I really wish I had time to do a thread on the moral basis of Capitalism and why it's the only known economic system that works to create prosperity. (I will not have any time for ATS for another week, at least.)

This thread is about the "Prison Industrial Complex" or more specifically, the privatization of prisons -- a really dangerous practice and Capitalism Perverted. By “Capitalism Perverted” I refer to Capitalism as used by CRIMINALS (and I’m not talking about the prisoners).

I believe many of our corporations are run by CRIMINALS, people without moral sense or boundaries – many of them probably narcissistic sociopaths. They have no problem LYING to the public about their product, using unfair advantages such as bribery (corrupting our legislative, judicial, & oversight systems), intimidation of smaller competitors, etc. They do not play fair.

Your Utopian answer:
"We need something new! A common unity and ownership defined as a stewardship for the common good of all." is NOT going to work.

It's been tried again and again under different political banners and it always fails because it disregards basic human nature.

They "cold call" and collect all sorts of private information, meanwhile, the person on the other end of the line is oblivious.

Money is everything to corporate America, even if it means enslavement, as mentioned by many.

What can you say about corporations that have no problem using slave labor in other countries to make a profit.

Labor so cheap that they can afford to ship products thousands of miles and still make obscene profits.

I think any person or people that put their drive for monetary wealth and power over the well being of their country men, like North Korean Prison Camps for the North Korean Government, or Stalin and his regime, or Large Corporations and Central Banks of America that buddy up to the government, all in the pursuit of more and more deserve to be put 6 feet under by whatever means possible.

You just now learned that the prisons are for profit? Cool, now look up how the troops grow opium in Afghanistan (Fox News), ship it to America, and lock anyone up that buys in their for profit prisons.

It's called a scam.

Shush, there is a lot of money to be made from this deal.

Before the US invaded Afghanistan there were less drugs in the World. What an interesting phenomena!..To note that before the US invaded Afghanistan, the Taliban had nearly eradicated opium poppy cultivation. But since the invasion, under US protection of the fields (see video), the poppy production is at record levels.
