NEW YORK (Reuters) - Halliburton Co. (NYSE:HAL - news), the world's No. 2 oilfield services company, said in a regulatory filing on Thursday that it has disclosed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (news - web sites) that it made about $2.4 million in improper payments in Nigeria.

Halliburton probably has an agent outside the Pearly Gates; but -in fairness - I doubt if anyone does business in Nigeria without bribes.

Having given up on the moral choice (don't do business there at all), all that remains is to pick the right side to bribe. Frequently, both sides are bribed!

Posters may also recall -during Cheney's time -the revelations that Halliburton was dealing with Iran and Libya (two other close friends of Uncle Sam).

Nigeria is a very corrupt country. At one point it's naira was worth more than the American dollar. This was after they got there independence from Britain. Now the country is run by elitist. I partially blame the IMF
