That snippet is the whole story so far, attributed to the AP. The BBC link is to news about his ongoing battle with cancer.

Hopefully the next administration in Venezuela will find a way to improve the lot of the people, and not just make noises about doing so by sabre rattling and socialism.

Improvements have ben made - but given the amount of industry/oil expropriated from foreign companies you'd think it would have been quite a lot more than it actually was!

It's on abc and cnn news web sites

It's sad when anyone dies. I wonder if the socialist movement in his country will continue without him to lead.

Well I am sure the oil barons will now can go back and take away what they lost from their oil assets when Chavez too over and kick them out of the country

Occurs US government will make sure that if the Venezuelan new government wants anything to do with the US "benefits" they will have to pay back retribution from the loses.

What a nice future for Venezuela if the want to be "firends of the US", time to get Venezuela back in debt with the central banks.

May he finally rest in peace.

I had read report over the last few months about the US having secret talks with the Venezuelan government to renew relationships. I think both sides knew Chavez wasn't going to win this campaign.

They were paid compensation at the time - eg $250 million for Exxon - although Exxon wanted $12 bilion - the Venezualans were only ever going to give them the "book value" - which is another incentive to keep honest books!!

The Williams group of companies were paid $420 million for natural gas assets, and various other companies sold down their shares to the Venezualans while retaining minority stakes.

but the country cannot afford to maintain the level of investment required and het economy is in the crapper despite what should be a gerat income stream - agricultural production is down, the oil industry has trouble paying contractors, ther have been serious safety failures, oil workers weer requierd to support Chavez or lose their jobs

Wow. Rest In Peace. His fate is now in the hands of the Most High. Of course it's been rumored for a few weeks now that he died. So I do wonder if he just died today or if it was at some point over the past few weeks and they are just releasing the info now.

Among those were the top 10 Oil reserves in the world:

Based on data from OPEC at the beginning of 2011 the highest proved oil reserves including non-conventional oil deposits are in Venezuela (20% of global reserves), Saudi Arabia (18% of global reserves), Canada (13% of global res

I gotta say it's interesting how this was known a while ago but when the MSM finally reports it then it's like "ah ok". lol Just kinda funny. Makes me wonder often ATS is actually right about things when people pass news off as nothing when the MSM isn't reporting it. Had to say it!

Wonder if there is a conspiracy angle here:

On going threats by the current administration to Iran- Chavez being a supporter of Iran "suddenly dies".

I wonder.
