Not 'Hundreds'--DHS Released Over 2,000 Illegal Immigrants

Plus another 3,000 in March. How's that going to work?? Funny, this does not match up with the Hundreds released according to the White House.

The Homeland Security Department released from its jails more than 2,000 illegal immigrants facing deportation in recent weeks due to looming budget cuts and planned to release 3,000 more during March, The Associated Press has learned.

The newly disclosed figures, cited in internal budget documents reviewed by the AP, are significantly higher than the "few hundred" illegal immigrants the Obama administration acknowledged this week had been released under the budget-savings process.

A few hundred plays out better in the Narrative than 5,000 doesn't it. Or we could just take the rule of 3 and apply it to the 5,000 to get the real number released.

The government documents show that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement released roughly 1,000 illegal immigrants from its jails around the U.S. each week since at least Feb. 15. The agency's field offices have reported more than 2,000 immigrants released before intense criticism this week led to a temporary shutdown of the plan, according to the documents.

The states where immigrants were released include Arizona, California, Georgia and Texas

The White House has said it was not consulted about the releases, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has acknowledged they occurred in a manner she regrets. White House spokesman Jay Carney on Wednesday said the government had released "a few hundred" of the roughly 30,000 illegal immigrants held in federal detention pending deportation proceedings. Carney said the immigrants released were "low-risk, noncriminal detainees," and the decision was made by career ICE officials.

As of last week, the agency held an average daily population of 30,733 in its jails. The internal budget documents reviewed by the AP show the Obama administration had intended to reduce those figures to 25,748 by March 31.

The White House did not comment immediately Friday on the higher number of immigrants released.

I think the approach of President Obama and his Secretaries are clear. The United States will not HAVE an illegal immigrant problem because, in the end, they will declare the illegal to be legal...the weak will walk and dogs and cats will get along for all time to come! Amen! Whew.... So much magic to happen and so little time to cast the spells eh?

The problem...? Well, it's what Reagan found when he agreed to amnesty in the 80's in exchange for an enforcement package that ..gee whiz...just never got around to being passed. Go figure? Some things never change.

The problem is, when they've made these millions upon millions of criminals legal ...what happens with the one who swims the river the DAY AFTER that is passed? The week after? it's all about giving and handing out to those already here ...while they are blinded to the PROBLEM we will have as much after, as we do now. They never stop coming ...so what do we do? Open the borders 100% and freely....as no nation in the world has or will do? (For damn good reasons, I might add) or promise each other that we really really really will do something about enforcement...right after we give free passes to everyone already here?

^^ tried that crap in the 80's. Got lied to and screwed for trusting the amnesty before enforcement. This time..Enforcement BEFORE amnesty or no deals, is my attitude. Compromise is on the liberal side, for a change.

Guess they went for extra credit by releasing more then they needed to meet their goal number, or I failed to use the same math formula that the government used.

I read this and another source on it and it seems to me like the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. The move makes sense though. By releasing these non-violent people they are saving over 90%. They are still up for deportation they just aren't sequestered in prison.

This kind of actions obey a purpose. Hard to consider it a mistake.

It's too bad they can't add them all to their voter base, grant them amnesty, and legal immunity for killing conservatives and republicans.

They have granted them the ability to gain a drivers license. What all do you think is needed to get a Voter ID card? They ARE on the Voter Rolls, if they choose to be. They have to fudge just a little on one part of the application for the Voter ID...but these are literally people who have lived here, in crime, for their entire time here. Whats new with fudging a little?

This has always been about racial games to get Hispanic voter numbers. If there wasn't a way to see votes out of this, the Dems would be first to put guns on the border, aimed south.

Why wouldn't non-violent "drug offenders" be released before illegal immigrants?

and have been 'helped' to get here from their Mexican prisons by the Mexican government.

They are still up for deportation they just aren't sequestered in prison.

The deliberate feigning of ignorance out of the White House is astonishing and Overplayed to death. They would rather have the nation think that they are dumb as hell than take responsibility for their failures.

Some call it downplaying, I call it a lie. Especially when you know that the knew the truth from the start..

Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., who sits on the Senate panel that oversees the Department of Homeland Security, harshly criticized the administration for downplaying the number of immigrants released, adding the revelation "makes it less and less possible for lawmakers to have productive negotiations with the White House over a comprehensive immigration bill."

The top officials in all of the agencies are appointed and directed by the white house.

With all due respect on this, it seems to be a real matter of everyone admitting this was either mistaken, handled poorly or outright wrong. From Obama to Carney to Aunt Janet herself.

This wasn't mislabeling files for the office or surfing a porn site at work. This was releasing thousands of felons. Given that Federal Law has no provision for misdemeanor offenses, violation of federal law is felony violation. All of them are. Hence..these are all, to a person, felons at least one time over. This matters, not so much for piling on to the people in this chat, but how much motivation they now have to NOT get back in touch with those who have just released them.

That's been the biggest criticism of catch and release. We catch, release and they never come back when told to. Well, they did it again ...and we're told it's no one's fault..yet again.

So.. What happened to command level people taking the fall for the utter failures of their subordinates? Janet should take a fall on this (If she really didn't know something so important, happening in her own Department) and I think Obama owes the nation at least a passing acknowledgement that accountability for action completely broke down here.

That's how many were released on sunday from Krome Detention Center in Miami ALONE!

Take also into account the illegal aliens who are arrested for criminal offenses who will NOT be coming into immigration custody. Rather, they will (or not) be processed and released pending immigration proceedings.

What you don't understand is that these people don't do anything major without at least communicating with the administration at the white house, and often directly with the president himself... Of course when things go bad, at least in those cases the white house simply "didn't know"

By that logic Bush is responsible for 911. I don't think anyone in this thread will go there.

As to the detainees, the source I provided said that they were "non-criminal" prisoners. Basically their crime is being in the country illegally.
