If anyone has friends who are newcomers to UFO research then science journalist J. Antonio Huneeus is quite a well established chap and gives some good introductory advice in the videos below about various official and unofficial reports and investigations into the subject - there's also Orkojoker's series of UFO Education videos HERE which are a great watch and contain significant info about topics like government documentation, USAF regulations and completely ridiculous official UFO explanations.

Rockefeller Briefing document:

Antonio Huneeus takes a look at some of the most famous official investigations from around the world. The first in this series covers the UN Briefing documents in which Antonio was one of the people hired to craft by Laurence Rockefeller.

Report

Blue Book:

Blue Book was the result of two previous Air Force study projects, Sign and Grudge, in the late forties and lasted until early 1970. It's purpose was to determine if UFOs were a threat to national security, and to scientifically analyze UFO-related data. The project went through many changes, but there can be little doubt that it played a pivotal role in the official history of UFOs in the USA.

Documents

Cometa:

The name COMETA in English stands for "Committee for in-depth studies". This report was carried out over a several year period at the Institute of Advanced Studies for National Defense, or IHEDN, a high-level French military think-tank.

Report

Italian documents.

These files were originally delivered in the mid-nineties to famed Italian ufologist and author Roberto Pinotti, and sent on stationary bearing the seal of the Kingdom's Senate and Agenza Stefani, the regime news agency in charge of disseminating Fascist propaganda. Forensic analysis was done on the documents and they were found to be originals and not photocopies. Andrea Bedetti, a historian and expert on Italy's Fascist era, found that the stationary, aeronautical terminology and vocabulary were all consistent with real documents from the period. These documents contained written testimony describing in detail several sightings along with hand-drawn pictures. It also discloses that Mussolini and Ciano, Italy's number one and number two leaders were informed right away about the phenomenon. These documents also talk of the alleged creation of the top secret "Cabinet RS/33", led by Marconi, and included some of Italy's most prominent astronomers, scientists and aeronautical engineers. As things went sour for Italy during the war, all the files from Cabinet RS/33 were supposedly shipped to Nazi Germany, where they might have influenced the Italian aeronautical engineer Belluzzo.

Thread

Also, for folks interested in UFO history and researching aspects like government documents and specific case histories, Daniel Ropkin over at Saturday Night Uforia has put together a great list of specialty UFO publications like Flying Saucer Magazine, UFO Historical Review, Journal of UFO History, A.P.R.O. Bulletin, Flying Saucer Review, Flying Saucer Review Case Histories and NICAP UFO Investigator which are all freely available at the link below.

ATS member Isaac Koi has also posted about the NICAP and APRO files and made a really great thread here about how to conduct fast searches of them (there's also all the editions of the 'MUFON UFO Journal' linked at his thread from Blackvault.com).

Of course, this is the kind of thread we come here to see. S&F.
I've read those reports, but I'll look at the videos. Review is good.

Karl,
I truly believe that ATS should be thanking you for your amazing researches, because I know you are one of the reasons why most of the people come here in the first place. I know that many people share my thoughts.

I just want to thank you for all your contribution to ATS. It's always a pleasure reading your threads, because it's always something new and so well written.

Like someone said before, I'll watch this videos by my self.

Cheers and please, keep it up.

Hi mate, and thanks again for a very well written thread and nevertheless interesting videos.

My only regrets are about Huneeus, which is a mystery to me, as he never replied to any of my request asking for collaboration and access to the Stevens Wendelle archives, especially about the old UFO photos, for my investigations and analysis....

Thanks for the replies and very kind words -Daniel Ropkin's certainly done a mighty fine job there by collating all those free publications and the vids from Antonio Huneeus and Orkojoker also bring up some very good points.

Thought the video about the Italian documents was very intriguing and look forward to more information about that -the Cometa episode is also a good one and there's more info about GEPAN/SEPRA investigations here for folks who haven't seen the link.

Regarding Bluebook I think one of the most important revelations to come out in recent years was when Dr Hynek stated he criticized the project's 'illogical and unscientific' approach to UFO investigation and presented them with new ways in which to improve their scientific methodology only to be completely ignored (link) - just about sums things up.

Hope the next installment of 'Need To know' is about the Condon Report but if it isn't there's an excellent piece below which examines the Committee's agendas and motivations - the conclusions of the peer reveiwed Sturrock Panel are also important ones (link) and I really can't see any open minded, objective person disagreeing with them after studying the raw data.

Hola mate and that is a shame about not getting access to the Wendelle archives as I know your photo analysis is very much appreciated here on ATS -I don't know how Openminds gained sole possession of them but hopefully they'll start collaborating with other researchers as time goes by (did see they'd released some of the images and the Uruguayan Floridad/Florida photographs look pretty intriguing).

There's also quite a few other archives out there I'd like to have a look at -Ivan Sanderson's UFO/USO/Crypto files are now safely stored with SITU and George Fawcett's archive has been sent to the International UFO Museum so hopefully they'll appear free online one day..

George donates his 20,000 item UFO archive collection of UFO reports, field investigations, FOIA documents, symposium publications, bulletins, magazine articles, journals, newspaper clippings, audio/video tapes and books to the International UFO Museum.

link

The archives arrived in Kalamazoo on Friday. Two very hard-working days of shelving and stacking later, punctuated by anomalies "parties" punctuated by sub-sandwiches and pizzas and large quantities of extravagant commentary, our eight person crew we at least got it all off the truck and inside. It's going to take a LOT of archival work, my friends, but it will be worth it---the unloading days themselves were some of the most fun I've had in a very long time.
I want to give you some extremely "early" assessment information. This stuff is EXTENSIVE. It nearly filled a 26-foot U-Haul truck. Secondly, it has survived the rigors of time and mice very well.

link

I think the main one to covet is Dr James Mcdonald's collection though and the special reading room at the University of Arizona Library is definitely up there on the to do list.

Beginning the collection, as delivered to the Personal Collections Section, are hundreds of files containing McDonald's research on UFO cases, classic and otherwise; correspondence and other materials connected with his numerous seminars and symposia talks before scientific groups such as the AIAA, AAAS, AMS, etc., arranged alphabetically from "A" to "Z." This section filled fifteen record storage boxes provided by the University. The file names, for the most part, are those originally selected by McDonald. The collection continues with approximately 580 Project Blue Book R-V files photocopied by McDonald at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1970 after the termination of Project Blue Book. These comprised four boxes and are filed chronologically by date, as McDonald originally arranged them.

when i thought the threads on ATS UFO Forum cant get any lower and crappier, then come this thread.. thanks Karl12 you are one of the real contributor on this forum..

the cometa report , as it is , is very interesting.. goverments dont know what they are dealing with and they prefer to ignore the UFO problem.. isnt it UK gov that said since UFO is not a defense threat they can safely ignore them ?

and i really hate everything with roswell in it.. so many fantasy and made-up stories about roswell that no one can really know what happened there except that something happened there.. roswell is a myth created by the Lies and US media spread it around and ruin the real UFO research in US and now its run by hucksters and liars looking to make money from UFO speaker circuits.

Thanks for the post mate and you bring up an interesting point about the government claim that 'UFOs are of no defense significance', especially considering that in the past fighter jets have been sent up to intercept these objects (and even ordered to open fire on them) -if these objects are unidentified then how do they know they do not pose a defense threat?

Here's what one ex MOD employee had to say about it:

"The official line from the Ministry of Defense is, 'Yes, this happened. No, we don't know what it is, but we say that it is of no defense significance.' How can it possibly be of no defense significance when your best jet is left for standing by a UFO? And, again, how can it be of no defense significance when your air defense region is routinely penetrated by structured craft?"

Head of the "UFO desk" at Air Secretariat 2-A, British Ministry of Defence from 1991-1994

As for the French study, Michel M. Deschamps from NOUFORS has done a great job below compiling government UFO documentation and there's some good info from Gildas Bourdais and Mark Rodeghier about Cometa, Gepran and Sepra -following on the specialist publication aspect, he's also uploaded 22 free editions of 'UFO Afrinews' which reports on South African UFO cases and research (there's also plenty of other UFO related files in there
).

Hello SirGilliganHorry and thanks for the post, haven't read much of Paul Stonehill's research but he certainly makes some interesting claims here about USOs and the 'hydrosphere aspect' of the UFO subject (SkyFloating has also made an excellent thread about USO research if you've not seen it already).

As well as specialist publications there's also the newspaper archive side of UFO research which can also be very useful in helping to corroborate existing UFO reports or source separately located sightings from the same time and area -below are some relevant links and articles but if anyone's aware of any more please feel free to post.

Vast Australian UAP newspaper clipping collection unveiled:

Newspaper collection:

UFO Research (NSW) have scanned and uploaded a vast collection of newspaper clippings to their website ( click here to see them).) They are to be congratulated for making this resource available to us. I realise that newspaper clippings may not always be regarded as a 100% accurate sources of data, but they do add to our knowledge of cases, particularly when they carry a photograph of a trace case, or indeed a photograph of something unusual in the skies.

Latest 'Need to know' video dealing with the Rand Corporation:

This next part of our "Your Need to Know" series, Antonio Huneeus examines RAND Corporation's UFO document, titled UFO's: What to do? The RAND Corp was originally an outgrowth project of World War II, called Project RAND, in May of 1948 it separated from the Douglas Aircraft Company and became it's own independent, nonprofit organization.

George Kocher of the RAND Corporation, published this document in November of 1968, a few months after the University of Colorado completed it's Condon Report. The RAND Corp document is broken into five different essays, Historical Aspects, Astronomical Aspects, The Character of Reports, Phenomenological Aspects, and How to Proceed and Why. These essays explore the types of reports and sightings, how they are categorized, and a list of hypotheses that exist surrounding the phenomenon. The document also provides an example of a detailed UFO report form developed by the University of Colorado's study group.

Latest 'Need to know' video dealing with FBI UFO Documents and the Hottel Memo:

In this next part of our Your Need to Know series, Antonio Huneeus examines the UFO files from the FBI’s The Vault. The Vault was created in 2011 as a storehouse for commonly requested FBI documents already released under the Freedom of Information Act. Go to Vault.FBI.gov, and from there you can easily search a multitude of topics ranging from counterterrorism to unexplained phenomenon.

The FBI recently revealed on its website that the most searched document is a simple one page memo called the “Guy Hottel Memo”. Its contents were written on March 22, 1950 by Guy Hottel, a special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office, and allude to the crash and recovery of the Roswell UFO. The memo ends abruptly with a sentence stating that no further evaluations were attempted. Major news organizations reported on this document being newly released, but it was actually released under the Freedom of Information Act, and available since the 1970s. Bruce Maccabee was the first to obtain this document, and he believes it to be part of an elaborate hoax.
