JM...you keep saying two things at the same time. You're condemning every one for an "alleged hoax" while lambasting us for making it solvable. Now, does that make sense? I didn't think so.

A rather severe poopie pants dance for this occasion, now isn't it?

Historical siginificance

After the last war of the worlds in 1938, a year later WWII had started, is ATS an unwitting auger for WWIII?

I wasn't in on the Halloween prank at all. I hope it's still up to read so I can enjoy it in a week or so.

They should be, there was a tag on each of the hoax postings, so that it'd be easy to see what's what. If it isn't up already, I hope theres a way to put up the initial intro post, as it really set the stage well. Someone caught on a little too quick so it went bye bye, hehe....

The aftermath of all this is so far 3 pages longer than the act itself

Is it still going on

I still agree it was done in poor taste, but it's over and done with now, so what's the point quarelling over it now. However, had someone done something irrational and caused harm, and actually mentioned ATS, then, charges could have been pressed. Yeah, anyone that does that, is pretty mentally unstable anyway, but nonetheless, in times like these, where a terrorist attack is emmient, anything, even a feather, could be a last straw.

Anyway, I just wanted to say. Jedi Master, I am not sure why you are having such a cow man, take a chill pill. Although, I agree, it was in poor taste, but it wasn't as bad you are reacting. In fact, in my personal opinion it wasn't that effective, most did not buy it(but I have a feeling you did) and those who did buy it just kept on repeating "this is weird, this is weird"
It wasn't convincing at all. Any reasonable person should be able to say

"Right, it's only on ATS, and it mostly moderators saying it, oh and the pictures, look like they are from Alien the movie"(The rain effect was funny) Further more, UFO's do not have fire trails. Then the fact that it was Haloween, and nobody else was reporting it, should have raised an entire line of red flags.

It's funny how many are saying it had the same effect as War of the worlds. In war of the worlds, the state came to an absolute halt, and there was mass hysteria everywhere. Here, there were just "this is weird, man"

Anyway, I guess in the future, such hoaxes will not be repeated, unless it's April the 1st, which would be glaringly obvious anyway. Then again, are we going to see April?

The avatar of CarlPhillips (the reporter in the original play, what a giveaway, hehe...)

This is a pic of HG Wells himself (with a Zorro mask I did in Paint, hehe...)

noted in Mainer's thread that I had always wondered what it would have been like to have heard the actual "War of Worlds" broadcast. Would I believe it - what would I have done?

If you can find it on tape (and they do have it), it's worth the money... I listened to it that way, and it was easy to see how so many bought it. Especially, since at the time, people pretty much believed the news on the radio. They timed it so that people tuning into another popular show (on a different network), and then joining WotW, would miss the initial disclaimer in the beginning, hehe...and so get fooled into the broadcast. Also, initially they actually had musical numbers that would then get interrupted. Can you imagine what that must have sounded like? Had you missed the intro? Truly genius....

Yeah jack I was freaking out because you called it so early on. You were definitely the first one to see the War of the Worlds connection. You are too smart for your own good.

Damn...

In retrospect, yes it was a good HOAX, but the timing was poor, and it was done in poor taste...

All I can say to this is that some of you have ruined any prospect of a normal life that you ever had. We all adjusted after 9/11. But I can see from posts like this from JM and Gizmo that some people have decided to allow 9/11 to own their lives. I ALMOST HAD MY HEAD TAKEN OFF ON 9/11. I WAS ON THE SCENE DURING THE SECOND IMPACT, THE COLLAPSES, AND THE LOSS OF MANY FRIENDS. I ALSO TOOK MY LIFE BACK. Some people didn't, it seems. I moved on, I grew back a sense of humor. I think those of you complaining should file a federal complaint about jibjab.com because Kerry and Bush never danced together or sang that song.

The posts were LOADED with clues including usernames stories and locations. If you didn't get it, we all collectively apologize for your isolation from this world famous and renowned event.

The way that some of you have let this site take over your life (you don't even bother to check other news sources and notice that the rest of the world doesn't notice these "goings-on") is unreal. Are you capable of leaving of the house and noticing the whole planet besides ATS is running normal speed? To get palpitations based on this? My god.

Then you have the seemingly ignorant folks saying this is OK on April Fools but not Halloween... Funny... Firstly, it shows your laziness to actually investigate something. Second it's ok as long as YOU are expecting it? Third, WOTW was done on Halloween not April 1st. You don't commemerate Christmas on Groundhog day do you?

I was going to suggest that the complainers lighten up a bit but I honestly don't think that's possible. I suggest a group be created that people can subscribe to via their preferences called the "Faint of Heart, Dramatic, Humorless Club" and they can be notified of such things beforehand.

And the martyr complex? Every single post by two members has to begin with "I'm ready to be banned for my beliefs"? Is that your way of portraying yourself as the common man against the nasty ole administrators? Boo.... hoo....

You've made your point, I'm sure it's been taken into account. But my goodness, enough already.

A good point, and one I'm not sure was clearly made yet....

So thats what this was about.

I was wondering about it. I couldnt even get any clear info to even determine what was being posted here to figure out what was going on, other than people landing in New Jersey. Some people in chat said, I smell BS. others said, dunno. And frankly, I had no clue as to what the stirr was, other than vague posts about something in New Jersey.

So, when I did a little looking and found nothing, my guess at first was maybe Homeland security got some sort of tip or something, and went somewhere, taking it seriously, and checked it out to be safe, but since nothing was ever reported in the news....my guess was, DHS checked it out and found nothing special, so they never said anything to avoid panic.

But Saturday night, couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone about it, other than people saying something landed, no confirmation, ect. So Im like, well, screw this, this is boring, im not listening to Art Bell, if something serious enough happened, there will most likely be some sort of leak or something strange happening, and since nothing did, my guess was a possible prank by someone calling DHS with a false alarm.

Now i see the whole thing was ATS pulling a Halloween prank. very clever!

Too bad i didnt get in on it from the beginning so i could track the whole thing, it might have been more fun!

I think that part of the reason some people did not accepted this Halloween joke as that was the way that the people involved said it was a joke.
For example, its the first time I see someone say that the original radio broadcast was on Halloween. This should have been said in the first post explaining it was a joke.

I suspected that this was some kind of joke, but the fact that the messages were scattered in several forums had the effect that I did not saw the first messages.
I know War of the worlds, but I only know the book, not the radio show, so if you put some references to the radio show, I would not recognized them unless they were the same as in the book.

I think that if the people who organized this had planned the end as well has they had planned the beginning, the majority of the people who are now complaining would have accepted it better.

But it was a good job, and I am glad that you did not let this wait until April, next year will see the release of the movie "War of the Worlds" by Stephen Spielberg.

I think alien has answered most of the questions raised on a similar thread and a quick read should alleviate most concerns from members. As it did in fact take care of the concerns that I had over the issue.
