I guess you missed the part about the whizzinator or other products like that. They are VERY common today... But the story here is why do people deserve money for nothing??? Welfare recipients are leaching off this country and I'm sick of paying for them and I know many others are too...

Its called smart business.... Businesses are around to turn a profit, not staff USA, if they can get cheap labor somewhere else they are being smart business man/women... Unions got a little too demanding and these trade workers felt they deserved these incredible pay packages for doing a job a 3rd worker could do for pennies on the dollar... I'll never blame a company for making a smart decision...But you're right, socialism does sound nice...

Comparing a paid worker to a slave is a poor comparison. And you are looking at the extremes to make your point, not evaluating both ends of the spectrum. And I've said this once and I'll say it again. If you're a good worker, you can find work here in this country. I can leave my job tomorrow and have a new one in days, I have recruiters hounding me weekly with great opportunities. So to act like there are no good jobs here is crazy (like so many do)... First of all being a poor person who used to do drugs. Let me clear up a few things about this topic. All you have to do to pass the test is carry in clean urine it is done all the time. The real prob. Is all the black people i know and i mean mainly black people. Who fake the i cant work and you cant see it injuries. And get there ssi disability check and work under the table too. There everywhere the 48% or whatever you wanna call it. Most are on drugs believe it!

This is a tough call. For one, no tax payer is gonna feel good about welfare going to buy drugs but... at the same time, any American who holds an ounce of belief in the constitution, can't justify sampling bodily fluids of US citizens simply because they get public assistance.

In sum, you don't surrender your rights when you confess that you're poor and need help.

Maybe the results can be seen as a positive result of drug testing? Since they know they will be tested, they stop using drugs? I can see several scenario's. Either they don't use drugs and passed. They do drugs and used one of the hundreds of ways to pass. They knew they would be drug tested and stopped using drugs. This result is not a call to say emphatically that there are no Welfare recipients using drugs.

please do not use racial stereotypes in my thread. you could make your point without bringing up race.

Your right drug test are wrong. And a invasion of privacy. They are used to eliminate a prob. When there is no other way. Because so many americans use drugs wether recreationally or alot. I work construction they use drug testing after accidents or insurance comp. Wont pay because they all know alot of const. Workers use them. So they can use the you hurt your back because you smoked a joint 2 weeks ago. Things are messed up in this country bad. And im afraid none of it is gonna get fixed ever. You cant even get food stamps if you were convicted of a drug charge dating back to 1986! What if you havent done drugs in twenty years and the joint you were caught with leads to starvation COME ON PEOPLE! Drug testing is everywhere now and record checks screwing people that have made mistakes in the past. We are turning into a police nation get used to it. Revolution is calling

It's unfortunate... But I'm also a person with a firm stance on not having kids until you are financially stable. Many families today don't practice safe sex or they rush to have families when their household income is less than $35k a year. People today need to be more responsible and just can't expect for the Govt. or someone else to just make things all better for them. I came from nothing and that's my driving force even to this day. I want to make sure I never live a life similar to how I was raised and if I ever choose to have kids, they will be given every opportunity I wasn't. And coming from nothing, with that fear of one day going back, motivates me every day to be better than my competition in my field. That's my driving force today and it will be mine tomorrow...

That's your driving force, but lets throw a situation that's reality for some people into the mix.

Should we view you as the weakest link if you come down with cancer, suffer an auto accident with serious injuries or just plain get mugged and shot, causing you to lose your job and effectively move into the poor house?

I'd bet your views would change really quick?

It's hard to buy drugs when you have no money.

I would like to know the details regarding the gathering of data about this...

I managed a Section 8 HUD housing community for a short period of time and got to know some of the residents there...all on welfare of some type or other.

I can attest that at least 50% of that community used illegal drugs of some kind or other... The place was so bad that the police would not come on the property in response to a 911 call until several units could enter at once in strength.

This community was no worse and was actually better than many in large cities.

At the 2% statistic I cry BS at the top of my lungs. I am not sure how they gathered the data, but that is total and absolute BS.

The way the current "system" worked is, typically, a single mother would qualify for the housing, and then would take in her boyfriend who would live with her (and of course not on the lease)...neither would have jobs, but usually the male had an income that involved illegal activities of some kind. Because the male, typically, had a record involving violent or drug related crimes he would not be able to qualify to live there, hence moving in afterwards "off the lease". Enforcing the leasing rules was dificult and problematic...due to the physical risk involved I left after sticking it out 2 months.

Just wasnt worth it...half the people there were good people in bad circumstances, while the other half were scum, animals...

Sure its already been said....but the statistic is less about proving that welfare recipients don't do drugs, and more about proving that they aren't so stupid as to consistently fail a drug test.

I mean really....drug testing is so ineffective that we don't even bother. I have made it a policy at every place I run that you only get tested when you give reason for cause.

Clearly drug testing should stop. The drug users are gaming it somehow. I work with the poor and downtrodden. Most everyone below 40 uses drugs. So they send the over 40 teetotalers in for the drug test.

Drug tests are not an invasion of privacy if you're accepting money from someone contingent on obeying laws. Silly to throw good money after bad, though.

Especially when the law being disobeyed is an unjust law. Then any good patriotic is compelled to disobey it.

People on welfare have never been treated fair. They only get $385 to support them and their kids, and any money used is docked against any child support due to them. Meanwhile people on SSI usually start out at $700 a month but if they are on SSDI they get earned compensation on top of that. My friend gets about $1,500 a month and he is in pretty bad shape.

I'm trying to figure out who the nut job was that calculated that it takes less money to support 2 or more people over one.

Besides I thought the whole idea of testing welfare reciepents was out the window because someone had suggested that if we test welfare folks, we should also test our congressmen. Of course they said no way jose.
