It's absolutely ridiculous how the US media and government describes US austerity measures, versus how they describe it for the rest of the world. If it's UK, Spain, France, Greece, etc. it's "austerity", but if it's the USA, well austerity somehow becomes "deficit reduction", "spending cuts", "budget cuts", "reduced spending", etc.

So absurd this ridiculous hypocrisy. Look at how the US media reports for example austerity in Spain or Greece. The US media describe it as something like an economic apocalypse and paint in a way that at any moment those countries will dissolve into some kind of Mad Max like world. The people there are all endlessly suffering, no one has food, people die in the streets, etc.

Yes, that is typical reporting all over US media on TV, print, online........

Even if it is France or the UK that the US media is talking about, although they tamper down the dramatics, they still call it austerity.

But how do AUSTERITY MEASURES in the USA get reported by this same media? It's "cutting spending", "reducing the deficit", "cutting back costs of entitlement programs", etc.

Strange too how the US government (which supposedly has no influence or connection to the US media) uses the same exact terminologies. When any US government stooge or shill talks about European economies, they always refer to it as austerity.

And in the same way, if they are talking about countries like Spain or Greece, they talk about it in apocalyptic like terms. But then when the subject of US austerity comes up, suddenly austerity becomes "lowering the budget", "reducing government spending", and all their other BS fake terms that are really talking about US austerity.

And then again budget cuts means unemployment for the working class that are the supporters of the welfare system in the nation

I don't know about many people but if my math serve me well how can you manage to spend more with less.

The US Government's word games are always fun.

Printing money > quantitative easing
Torture > enhanced interrogation
Kidnapping > rendition
War > police action
Napalm > incendigel
Lying > misspeaking
Bribery > lobbying

Such honest straight forward people get elected

Love it, that is a gem of a post.

I can not even start to comprehend how the elite in charge are so daring as to screw the working class with budget cuts and then on to slap them in the faces with anouncements like the one on financial aid to Egypt, or arming the terrorist in Syria.

Your right, deficit reduction and austerity are the same thing, and your right it isn't pleasant to go through.

Here is the thing though, it is not a choice, and I am extremely sick of people acting like it is. If you think some how that if we keep spending way more money than we have it will cause the problem to magically go away, then you are an idiot. You can get angry all you want that austerity is necessary, and you should be, our government has seriously let us down. The citizens have let us down too because far to few are paying any attention as to how out of control our economy has gotten. Many people only care about the handouts they are receiving now and could care less about the future.

We have been deficit spending at a ridiculous rate for the last 4 plus years because stupid Keynesian economists claim it will jump start the economy. Well it hasn't and it won't work. The debt level is far to deep to get us out of this hole with economic growth, if anyone says differently they simply don't know what they are talking about. We would need to grow at a rate never before achieved at a time when this countries ability to compete is the weakest its been in decades. It is not going to happen.

The situation we are in is extremely dire, as soon as the fed loses control of the interest rate we are royally f'd. The fed has no short term securities left to sell to pay interest. Either they don't pay interest and the rate goes up or they sell long term bonds and the rate goes up, or they buy more bonds with newly created money and nakedly inflate the currency. Any way you cut it the fed is losing control - and we will suffer for it.

All you greedy people who are crying foul at any spending reduction are only encouraging the government to run the economy into the ground. Instead of having any kind of controlled wind down of the economy we are going to end up with chaos, and ignorant citizens screaming no cuts will share some of the blame.
