So, you missed the part about it being the POLICE OFFICER's service weapon that he left out, locked and loaded. You do realize that he would've had a gun whether or not everybody else could, right? Seems you don't "get it" either.

completely tragic but also completely avoidable. the double standard stated in the OP is also disgusting. the officer should be held accountable for his actions. very irresponsible of him to leave the gun locked and loaded, of course there is also the chance he taught his son how to load a gun....

Even if he taught his son to load the weapon, the only one a 4 year old could load would be a revolver. The semi-automatics used today require you to load the chamber by slide action. This is not something that would be easy for a child that young to do, I have seen adults struggle at times to do it properly.

This guy was an idiot though. He left a "hot" pistol laying on a table without the safety on. Depending on the gun the trigger can be pulled pretty easy. Only a moron sits a loaded weapon down with the safety off when kids are around. Hell even if kids are not around you should have the safety on minimum. This guy was just careless either because of things going on in life or he is just stupid.
