The State Department on Friday gave the go ahead on the Keystone Pipeline,
with the release of the EIR, stating that the "construction and normal operation" of the latest proposed
route would have no significant environmental effect.

This has left environmentalists speechless, stuttering...

Keeping in mind that this pipeline will come from the Canadian tar sands,
a raw form of oil will be traveling through the pipeline, and it is for China.,
The United States will not have use of a drop of this oil, this is just another bad
deal for America on this Administrations watch all the way around!

Van Jones, a former green jobs official in the Obama administration and a CNN contributor,
said Friday that if the controversial Keystone oil pipeline is constructed under President
Barack Obama's watch, it could become part of his legacy.

"Now it's the 'Obama Pipeline' and it leaks," he said, posing the hypothetical situation
of a spill along its 1,700-mile length.

"His legacy could be the worst oil disaster in American farmland history.
He's got to make a tough choice," Jones said.

What gives State Department?
It was said that EPA head Lisa Jackson resigned early for just this reason.

This is the pipeline 48 environmental activists, including the Sierra Club, were arrested protesting.
Preventing this pipeline was considered by many a must win as NASA climate scientist
James Hansen said the Canadian tar sand exploitation was game over for the planet.

So...then why has The State Department given it a clean slate as of now,
and why is Obama backing this?

What kind of Change is this?

So much for "saving the planet from Climate Change"

Surely the seas will rise and swallow us all now, even though
Obama has requested an additional 2.6 Billion dollars in increase for 2013. Right?

What a racket!

Obama doesn't do it, and Republicans will cry for years about how OBAMA should have done it.
Obama does it, and democrats cry about it.

It's pretty much like this for every issue. No matter what he does, half the country will moan about it. And they moan loudly.

Also, anything that happens under Obama gets his name added to it. Health care reform written by congress and the health insurance companies.....smack, let's call it "Obamacare."
Heck even that economic collapse that happened under Bush is Obama's fault.

I feel like everyone's lost their damned minds. He's just one man.

Why do you say this oil would be for China? The US desperately wants/needs more oil. The only obstacle has been the idiot Democrats who 1) bow to the environmentalists, and 2) instinctively oppose any expansion in the petro/industrial sector, regardless of how much US citizens are hurting from the high gas prices. This is a bunch of Nancy Pelosi/Ted Turner leftist idiots who have opposed this even though it has never posed any real environmental risk. It shows how far out of touch Obama is that he still hasn't approved this.
these leftists won't rest until 95% of the US is packed in concrete-box apartments while the creme de liberal continue to enjoy their Malibu beach houses and Colorado ski chalets. Elitism, pure and simple.

It was said very early on that the tar sands, once refined, would be going to Asian markets. No one is making that part up, that is what was said. That part seems to be lost behind the fight over the jobs building the pipeline would create through construction and maintenance.

It would be nice if it would work to lowering our prices, but it won't. Even if it was coming here, all oil and gasoline prices are driven by futures speculation. The source has nothing to do with the world petroleum markets and prices.

re oil and china:

There can be little doubt that the United States has serious concerns about Enbridge's proposed pipeline linking the Alberta and Kitimat. That's because it would clear the way for China to get its mitts on Canadian oil, reducing supplies and raising prices for U.S. refiners

www.straight.com...

While environmental-movement protests over the proposed Keystone XL pipeline are heating up again in Washington, Enbridge Inc. is making another move that perhaps skirts the more controversial route of building “greenfield” pipeline projects.
Enbridge, with partner Energy Transfer Partners, announced Feb. 15 that they will spend between $2.4 billion and $3.4 billion to buy an existing, 1,100 kilometre natural gas pipeline between an oil hub at Patoka, Ill, to St. James, Louisiana and carry 420,000 and 660,000 barrels per day of crude per day starting as early as 2015.
The conversion will require government approval, but it would be another outlet for Alberta oilsands bitumen and the increasing shale-oil ouput from the Bakken region of North Dakota, the latter of which is dependent on rail shipments to get to market.
And it could be a quicker, harder-to-stop proposal for moving oil around the existing, overloaded infrastructure to markets that are keen to get the oil while the environmental movement is working overtime to try to stop.

blogs.vancouversun.com...

The environmentalists are using the tried and true falied greenhouse gas emissions as their reason to oppose this pipeline...which is a fail that smacks of "planned opposition" which is based on a falacy, ands so is guarenteed to fail

 He's just one man.

He seems more like a waffle lately.

No Keystone Pipeline/Keystone Pipeline is great....
Sequester is an immediate apocalypse/sequester effects will not be felt immediately.

Some people might wonder if he has a clue.

Hi Dan,

And even if everything goes according to plan, lets say it never leaks.
This is a sell out of America, one of the all time worst I have seen in
terms of geograhpical impact, and the pollution, its mind boggling.

The issue of Climate Change, well I am not a AGW congregational member,
but those who are should be outraged.

What an absolute joke this is going to be. It should be called "The Pipeline to China."

The company that extracts these Canadian tar sands has already stated that not one drop of this oil is destined for consumption in the U.S. as it has already been sold to China under a binding contract. Therefore, the only thing I see America getting out of this deal is a reduced refining capacity for the rest of us. Seeing how we haven't built an american oil refinery in over 40 yrs. and considering that all of this oil will be refined prior to shipment to China, how can it mean anything else?

So when gas prices go through the roof as we devote more of our refining capacity to supplying China's needs, I'm sure that the republicans who pushed this pipeline will insist that the high price of gasoline in America is Obama's fault too. Go figure!

You mean when tax cuts get called the "Bush tax cuts" or any other piece of legislation that gets attributed? You are just realizing this now? At least you have made it this far I suppose. Obama isn't the first for this to happen and Bush endured it for 8 years prior; maybe you were too young to see that?!

Why do they need to build a pipeline? Why can't they build a refinery where the oil is mined? No need to snake a pipeline through America. This is political BS. We do not need a pipeline. If they have to build something, I would rather see them build a refinery as it leaves us free of the pollution from a spill. It is Canadian oil. Let them refine it.

Its true that America needs its own energy independence,
its really a shame that this Keystone Pipeline is a priorty for
The Feds, and maybe that says alot about what kind of a future
we face?

One thing for sure, this Pipeline is not for America!

Good points, yes the oil prices are controlled by The Rockefellers.
We are not going to gain from this in any way.

where are the cheering "drill baby drill" conservatives ?

oh, that only counts when the oil exec's who own them are profiting from the drilling

got it

this is a shame. they are going to use eminent domain to force their way onto private land where the owner is refusin to sell/lease

let that sink in
