More Antarctic Lake news. This time, they lowered a mini sub-cam down the hole to get video of the lake from under the ice!
Submarine Explores Buried Antarctic Lake Whillans

The robotic sub, about the size and shape of a baseball bat, was dropped down a 2,625-foot (800 meters) borehole into subglacial Lake Whillans in January. Tethered to the surface with a fiber-optic cable, the micro-submarine showed the world its first images of a buried Antarctic lake

It looks like a shallow sedimentary bottom, with small rocks strewn about:

Next up, they will be sampling the lake water for analysis.

NASA again. Never a straight answer. Even the video only shows us the one photo we are allowed to see . All that ten days of trudging the tundra to bore a deep hole, use a hi res camera on a sub built by Arizona University to show us that one pic?!

Grrr...

Lake Whillans.

How are new "lakes" named? Can the person who discovered them name them to anything they want or does it have to be their surname?
