Around 8:45 pm I saw a flash of Breaking News on Yahoo.

Of course I immediately went to the ATS site to confirm that H. C. was actually dead.
After reading the three or four pages concerning the death I decided to back step and go to the Yahoo News and try to get confirmation.

It can only mean one thing

His entire nation couldn't care less what you think about it or what kind of political strategy he implements.
They get free medical care, education and cheap gasoline so instead of debating politics on forums such as ats, they drive around, enjoy life and just don't care. One of the reasons they let him sit in the office for 15 years is they don't mind him there, as long as they don't have to sell their homes in order to pay for orthodontics, they're fine. Really. Great little country, happy people, been there once.

Why do you care so much as to wish him dead - it doesn't affect your lifestyle one bit? Jealous?

It is my understanding from the atlantic newswire link I posted on page 7 this news person is not "trustworthy", and this is not the first, but the third time he has hoaxed this story.

m.theatlanticwire.com...

If he has been dead since Dec. 30, how did CNN run photos of him home with his daughters which they updated the 22nd?

Then the tweet from their PR department... I smell someone getting fired.

Couple that with CNN's PR department tweeting they cannot verify the story, and I believe you have a designed, fully perpetrated hoax by now, a known hoaxter.

His intent? I can't say. Looks bad for CNN, who's ratings continue to plummet.

The other reason is they could get jailed for speaking out against him...

Chavez bought more people out of poverty in Venezuela than any previous president. This is a bad thing apparently and as such his death must be applauded

He will be replaced by some Neo liberal, who opens up the resources of Venezuela to the private sector, who have no interest in helping the poor.

(Yeah...I really disliked him and what he did to Venezuela THAT much) Lets hope his replacement isn't worse.

Funny that an American doesn't like him for what he did to VEnezuela, but Venezuelans love him for what he did to VEnezuela.

Says it all really. Americans hate leaders who real with their people in mind, shame on Chavez for not bowing down to America and selling his people down the river!

Did I say I wished him dead? Never said a thing like it. The only posts with venom I see here are yours.

However, lets look at some of Hugo's highlights in life for running this free nation of his, shall we?

Hugo Chavez closes 34 Venezuelan radio stations

Hugo Chavez Wages War on Free Press in Venezuela, Other Latin Presidents Follow Suit

Venezuela to nationalize U.S. firm's oil rigs

Venezuela’s Orinoco Oil Belt Nationalized Five Years Ago

and finally, the full economic stats of Venezuela...but here is a piece of the summary before the link to the whole thing.

Venezuela remains highly dependent on oil revenues, which account for roughly 95% of export earnings, about 40% of federal budget revenues, and around 12% of GDP. Fueled by high oil prices, record government spending helped to boost GDP growth by 4.2% in 2011, after a sharp drop in oil prices caused an economic contraction in 2009-10. Government spending, minimum wage hikes, and improved access to domestic credit created an increase in consumption which combined with supply problems to cause higher inflation - roughly 28% in 2011. President Hugo CHAVEZ's efforts to increase the government's control of the economy by nationalizing firms in the agribusiness, financial, construction, oil, and steel sectors have hurt the private investment environment, reduced productive capacity, and slowed non-petroleum exports. In the first half of 2010 Venezuela faced the prospect of lengthy nationwide blackouts when its main hydroelectric power plant - which provides more than 35% of the country's electricity - nearly shut down. In May 2010

There are many reasons I think he was a crappy leader with a tyranical style of leadership. They're based in stats, facts of his actions and his history of running the nation....not rumors or MSM.

By the way... Notice the level of dependence on the Oil industry? It's odd but it seems if the wrong people have involvement in Oil, they're evil. Chavez though? Well, that's no big deal in his case I suppose. I don't personally care either way...but it's interesting how one of the world leaders in the stuff is lionized by some who would otherwise lynch oil leaders. Mighty selective there for some folks....but again, that isn't why I dislike pretty much everything he and Ortega and Morales..to name a few...stand for or do.

The Americans all think he's a mad dictator. I don't want to blame them because I know their tv and media brainwashes them, at the same time they're on the internet, you'd think they could educate themselves. Seems not!

Please do... I'll look forward to links and data to back that claim...as I have much more where my links there came from. This debate could get rather interesting if we want to get into real depth on the history and details of the rule of Hugo Chavez and the people he selected around him.

all you said is you dislike this guy and that you are happy that another being is dead....

you failed to give reason of WHY you dislike this guy?
cause he stood up for his country and made THEIR resources for THE PEOPLE in venezuela....

so please..give me a reason why i myself or others here in ATS should share a bit of the jubilation that seems to flow through you, with you.....

No, not really, not if you're just a citizen, you can speak your mind even if you don't agree.

If you do have some political interests/influence he might bribe you or worse, but as i've said the 'common people' are happy, their standard has gone way up since Chavez first started, he is liked by majority, is that really so hard to understand?

Yeah I posted that on page 7. No one cares, topic long derailed.

I posted on page 6 how the photo is proven to be photoshopped.

No one cares.

People would rather argue.

Reading his Wiki he seemed a decent chap.

A quote from him here

Democracy is impossible in a capitalist system. Capitalism is the realm of injustice and a tyranny of the richest against the poorest. Rousseau said, 'Between the powerful and the weak all freedom is oppressed. Only the rule of law sets you free.' That's why the only way to save the world is through socialism, a democratic socialism... [Democracy is not just turning up to vote every five or four years], it's much more than that, it's a way of life, it's giving power to the people... it is not the government of the rich over the people, which is what's happening in almost all the so-called democratic Western capitalist countries.

Seems about right to me but hey Iam a socialist

you could have not said it any better!!!!
you just expressed ME! great reply to post!

Okay, you may have missed his rampage on the press down there that I posted above.... Or his nationalizing not just oil, but nearly a dozen different national industries with inflation rates running 28%. (If one checked the links I posted above)

All was not happy in Venezuela and that is one heck of a solid reasonable basis on just a minor economic point for disliking him. How strongly and publicly he disliked the United States might also be at least a fair part of it. Again, this is an area he's never been shy about communicating and it actually did offend people.

The picture of Venezuela under Chavez is a broad one, economically though ...and the rather steep inflation rates, despite massive Gov't subsidizing on basic staple items, is only one aspect. In fact...there are ATS members who have posted from Venezuela in the past, noting how interesting a life it is in Caracas.
