This was really blown out of proportion, wasn't it?

Woodward blew it out of proportion but I have a few theories; it is after all a conspiracy site.

Theory One:
Woodward was using this moment to put out a clarion call of sorts, using knowledge that the White House indeed uses heavy handed tactics to control the press. All in hopes that others would begin to speak up and not be afraid. Sadly, if this theory is true, only one person spoke up.

Theory Two:
He is getting ready for a new book. He takes a vague comment from an email and lets it ride. Negative or positive, it gets media attention.

Theory Three:
Sequestration, Hagel confirmation, Kerry acting an ass on the world stage, etc etc is happening and Woodward played the press to kill a whole day and a half of it. Effectively taking the heat off it all.

Sure they do, and that is precisely why Woodward took the steps he did, so he says,
and other reporters. Wise as a snake to say he did not 'feel" threatened.

Of course, I would go with door #1.

Some thoughts on door #2 and #3, Woodward is 70 years old, and has
a long standing reputation, and a good one at that. He does not need the
money or the publicity. Having read a few of his works, he is a technically minded
man, and most people are lost with his fact finding, journalistic style.

I just simply see no motive but door #1. With Woodward, reporting is his passion,
and most of the time when someone is passionate about their work,
there is no stopping them, even if peril lies ahead.

To tell you the truth, I would take 1 Bob Woodward over the other hundreds of thousands
of Eunuchs that comprise the MSM media.

I find it rewarding to see them all band together like the cult members that they are,
turning on him, and propping up the State ran propaganda machine.

Agreed. I think this happens in a more subtle manner than we are lead to believe. The threat of "losing credentials", reporting as a free press, in a free society, is big. It is counter-intuitive that you have to ask the Government to be able to have access to the the Government. People have no problem with that and it is sad. Why do I need permission from the White House to be in the same room as the President to report on him or ask questions?

Woodward may very well have laid the ground-work for others to come out and start questioning that process.

Excellent summation, I so agree. One thing for sure,
he has been attacked relentlessly since this public disclosure
of his exchange....he must have had some idea of the backlash
and I would have loved to been a bot on the wall when he took his
1/2 hour verbal lashing.

More and more reporters are coming forward to comfortably disclose their run ins with White House staff. Thanks to Woodward...

This administration is more skilled and disciplined than any other in controlling the narrative, using social media to circumnavigate the press. On the flip side, our YouTube culture means even the slightest gaffe can be devastating, and so you have an army of aides and staffers helicoptering over reporters.

Finally, this week, reporters are pushing back. Even Jonathan Alter — who frequently appears on the Obama-friendly MSNBC — came forward to say he, too, had been treated horribly by the administration for writing something they didn’t like

“There is a kind of threatening tone that, from time to time — not all the time — comes out of these guys,” Alter said this week. During the 2008 campaign swing through Berlin, Alter said that future White House press secretary Robert Gibbs disinvited him from a dinner between Obama and the press corps over it.[...]

“I had a young reporter asking tough, important questions of an Obama Cabinet secretary,” says one DC veteran. “She was doing her job, and they were trying to bully her. In an e-mail, they called her the vilest names — bitch, c–t, a–hole.” He complained and was told the matter would be investigated: “They were hemming and hawing, saying, ‘We’ll look into it.’ Nothing happened.”

Wow, they will stop short, but very short with the language.
That is utterly disgusting!
