KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Crews are on the scene of a large gas explosion outside of a Kansas City restaurant Tuesday night.

Officials are reporting a car hit the gas line and sparked the blaze.

Authorities said the inferno is in an area called the Plaza.

Preliminary reports say it could be at JJ’s restaurant.

Officials said there are injuries but have not confirmed how many or their severity.

My cousin works in a restaurant in KC, thanks for posting this.
I hope and pray the injuries are only minor. It's moments like this that make me wish I didn't give up on FB.

ETA: Thanks Kituwa.

Total Loss of JJs Restaurant; award winning restaurant on the Country Club Plaza (KC, MO).
A single car crashed into the gas meter outside the restaurant creating a gas leak from the main which caused a build up of gas and lead to a natural gas explosion. But there are also pictures of a backhoe on fire in the street so it is possible that street repair could have broken a gas main and that was the cause. A gas company crew was on the site and the restaurant was evacuated due to the strong smell and that is why there were no apparent fatalities.

None of the MSM is reporting

Just local.

Thinking this should be reported by the major news stations. Many of us have family in KC area.

Altho the restaurant is just off the west side of the Plaza the Country Club Plaza is a national landmark also (not to mention that JJs had a world class wine cellar).

Heard a snip that it was in a mall. Looking at google maps it appears that way.

Cant copy the picture. Maybe someone out there knows how to do it??

St. Luke's Hospital said five patients had been brought to the hospital and at least some were in serious condition.

The University of Kansas Hospital said it had received four patients and had a fifth on the way, hospital spokeswoman Jill Chadwick said. Two of the patients were in the trauma unit. She said most of the patients were being treated for lacerations. Truman Medical Center reported one patient with critical injuries.

The Associated Press said three people were not accounted for.

I live fairly close to The Plaza, and the explosion was pretty loud, and shook all the windows in my house. You could see the smoke for miles, such a sad situation. I saw on our local news that there are several critical injuries, but no deaths reported as of yet. The owner of the restaurant is out of town in Oklahoma, trying to get back home as fast as possible. That place was a KC landmark, sad to see it up in flames.

Is it in a mall?

I'm not from there. Have family there though.

No, it's a restaurant. The Plaza is several blocks worth of high end shops and restaurants. It's a really nice area, with a lot of fountains, and when it's Christmas time it has a pretty good light display.

So sad.

Hope for no fatalities.

Looking at the footage, it's hard to imagine there not being any fatalities, because of it occurring right around dinner time. But I'm hoping the reports are true of the strong gas smell, and maybe everyone was on the way out fairly quickly.

I thought the same. That was a big explosion from what I saw.

Very little news about it yet.

I would like to "think" that all is good being the MSM isnt reporting.
