Sci-fi short films are becoming more entertaining and thought provoking each year so if anyone knows of any good (or original) ones out there then please post away.

Haven't seen many but below is a great one dealing with scientific experiments on amusement park rides.

Thanks for the reply Dimens and you've got to love Half life
-here's another good short based on the game (part one contained quite a bit of graphic violence so didn't post it).

Part Two:

Really love these kind of short movies, looks very easy to do but i know its not, its alot of hard work and sometimes long hours of just rendering your project. But always worth the time

Also curious about the vid that olaru12 posted, looks good!

It sure is mate and there really are some excellent ones out there -here are four more thought provoking films and some of the direction, acting and effects are pretty darn impressive.

This has just become my favorite thread.

In the vid Tears of Steel I see alot of similarities to one of the eoisodes of "The Animatrix" which has like 9 or so short animated films about the Matrix movie lore. They seem to be mindwashing the machine maybe to fight for them and the fact that they built robots that then turned on them.

Anyway, heres my contribution, you've probably seen it though.

Hey Chukkles, very good call on the Animatrix mate -haven't seen that in ages (hadn't seen the Blomkamp short either
).

Found the episode you mean and it's a great one with some pretty stunning animation -also thought this one was a corker.

Think you may have to enable CC subtitles on the player for this German one but it's also very good and certainly makes you think.

D-I-M, Deus in Machina

IN A BLEAK FUTURE, A LOST SOUL SEEKS DESPERATE MEASURES TO ESCAPE HIS LUCK. THE PUNISHMENT IF CAUGHT? YEARS SPENT LOCKED UP IN HIS OWN PERSONAL NIGHTMARE.

Hola Brigidshine, thanks for the post and some of the films are pretty amazing considering the budget they had to work with -here's another corker from Neill Blomkamp.

Alive In Joburg.

Neill Blomkamp was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but emigrated to Canada when he was 18 and ended up working as a 3D animator in America. His life changed after making Alive In Joburg, which so impressed Peter Jackson (Lord Of The Rings, King Kong) that Blomkamp was invited to turn his short film into a feature film: District 9.

Delivery

Delivery, made by Till Nowak when he was still a student, is a short animation that did very well on the international festival circuit, gaining a dozen awards along the way. An old man is living alone close to a metropolis around which all life is dying - including the last flower the old man has. But today he receives a mysterious package which gives him the ability to change his world...

Another great new short:

Human Revolution – Deus Ex

Online fans have been hearing about this project since 2012 and now their patience is being rewarded. Writer/Actor/Director Moe Charif has delivered a hugely impressive fan film set in the world of the successful Deus Ex video games.

Featuring VFX from Mauro Rondan and receiving release through Machinima’s “Prime” YouTube channel, the film delves into a cyberpunk future where human augmentation is gaining in adoption, and where corporate power is outstripping governmental control. Adam Jensen, played by Charif, is our protagonist, an augmented security consultant looking for his kidnapped ex. While motivations surrounding her captors remain cloudy, actions ring out loud and clear via impressive action sequences captured in a very complementary shooting and editing style.

The result is very polished, especially by the standards of fan film, attaining strong competency in acting, fight choreography, production design and VFX design/integration. This film is a great fit for the Machinima brand, it is the type of work that would otherwise have gotten Charif a gig on an exclusive web series, like they famously did with Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat fan film. It will be exciting to see what comes of this for Charif, but in the meantime enjoy a sweet fix of fantastic sci-fi.
