I've not seen a thing here in NW FL except not long ago a nice meteor, one that was just a bit brighter than the usual tiny speck darting across the sky for a few seconds. My daughter said she saw a long streak across the sky, you know, a small white plume. I think it was curved downward so it might have been a meteor, who knows.
This was not long ago and after the meteor event in Russia.
spacescience.spaceref.com...
We modern folks have not witnessed this. It would still be a little frightful even today.

Haha, sure you can call me Donny but Donna would be better!

I'm in the Southeast about an hour and change north of Marseille, so not very near Bugarach. Was thinking at the time I'd like to check out the spectacle but they closed off the village!

Problem here is that info on the French web seem very minimal, I know in the US there would have been something about somebody else seeing it too. It was enormous after all!
It was around 11:30 at night and as you know, most French have long since shut their shutters and gone into hiding.
My husband and a friend saw a large, silent black triangle over Cavalaire( St.Tropez) in the late 80's, so there are things here too, or maybe only in the south. It is a " special" place....

Greetings Donna Darko,

That's funny i lived not far from where i think you are talking about (in the 69.. and no for non French people this is not a sexual position in France but an area code!!)... I'm now in the 37 but travel quite a lot to the area where you are so it's nice to have a Bouillabaisse from time to time at the old port in Marseille

It's true that the South of France has been known over the years for much unexplained phenomenal activity and UFO sightings, but not much has been reported here in ATS (probably because either the people who saw could not speak English or were too timid to report here knowing that they would either be debunked or laughed at by trolls mocking their English language skills without realising that theposters are non native English speakers.

It's so nice to see other people from around the world answering my thread, so thank you to all you posters so far.

Kindest respects

Rodinus

I haven't seen anything in Michigan. Of course, it's been cloudy for the past week. The only good clear day we had was yesterday, but by nightfall it was already clouding up.

Couldn't say I'd be looking for meteors though. I'm always looking up hoping to see the remarkable. I see meteors (shooting stars) hitting the atmosphere EVERY time I star gaze.

I think it's likely we could be moving into a tumultuous part of space that is denser. When objects like DA-14 and ISON move through, they can spray rocks this way and that - it's to be expected more would be heading our way. I just hope they stay small and burn up on entry. So far, we've been lucky. We are even luckier, the planet is covered 70% by water. It makes these bigger sized ones, a bit easier to handle when most end up in the water. Of course, when eventually an earth level extinction rock swings our way, it won't matter where it hits.

Peace,
Cirque

EAST COAST METEOR WAS SHOT DOWN THREE TIMES!!!

Take a look these vids of the east coast meteor streaking through the sky...check out the left portion of the screen (8-9 o clock)...three flashes of light...the first apparently missed...but the SECOND WAS A DIRECT HIT (coinciding with the meteor disintegrating midflight)...the third missed methinks...compare with the russian meteors being shot down vids....

Rodinus,

It appears that I missed your thread first time round, but better late than never I suppose.

It's a good series of questions that you posted, and most if not all the answers to it are on ATS already, although they are scattered around.

As a few have said already on this thread, meteors (and indeed fireballs) are common if you take the time to observe the sky for them. Most people don't put in the time required, and if you don't, you usually don't get to see them unless you happen to get lucky.

Anyway:

1. I don't know exactly what it is about the USA, but since I became interested in the subject about 15 years ago I've noticed that the USA seems to get more than it's fair share of big fireball and meteors sightings. It may well be due to a combination of factors such as:

Large continental land mass that means cloud free skies are more likely.

Historically it's the birth place of meteor-observing, so there is a large sub-culture (compared to other parts of the world) of meteor-observers, and also people who are generally into astronomy.

Well established communication and news networks, meaning a better chance of hearing about events.

And lastly, it has a population that seems to be more dis-trusting of their government than any other part of the world. This means more people that are conspiracy minded, so more people that are willing to question events that might seem normal to people in other parts of the world... so when something "strange" like a fireball happens, it's more likely to get posted.

2. After the Russian fireball, there were numerous reports of fireballs that turned out to be other phenomena - mostly high altitude aircraft that had sun-lit contrails. So yes, people were looking for fireballs/meteors more, and in some cases misidentifying other phenomena. You are right also that some see meteors/fireballs and are unable to identify them.

3. (you didn't number you last question) As someone who does not reside in the USA, and constantly searches the internet for meteor and fireball observations, I constantly come across events that are not posted on ATS. I do post the more notable events here of they have not already been posted, but if I was to post every single fireball report that I came across, I'd be posting at least one or two times a day!

Keep in mind that most fireballs and meteors are not reported mainly because most of Earth's surface area is ocean, or sparsely populated/unpopulated, and also because of cloud or daylight, or people being tucked-up in bed. Also, some people simply don't bother reporting events even if they know that there are places where they can be reported.

Also keep in mind that people are getting better at reporting these events. When I first became interested in the subject, I didn't see as many reports as I do now, and many of the big events did not reach mainstream media (although they may have made local news) due to there being no footage. Without footage, they are not "news-worthy". We have many more cameras today that are pointed at the sky than 15, 10, or even 5 years ago, so more events are being caught on camera, making them news-worthy.

Despite this, ATS picks up many more events than the MSM in my experience, partly since we have members all over the world, and it seems to be increasing probably as much due to growing interest in this type of event as it is due to ATS's ever growing membership. This could easily have the effect of making people who were previously not on ATS think that there are more fireballs around since you are more lightly to hear about fireball reports on ATS than you would if you were not on ATS.

Whilst there might be a small up-kick in activity of this nature, it would be impossible to tell without properly collected data. The jury is still out on this possibility as I posted here.

To answer your other questions... The percentage of American users here probably out numbers the rest of the world combined... The UK probably being second highest but the UK is always cloudy and being such a small island has very high levels light pollution... Australia being third is a huge country with maybe only 2-3 per cent being populated and most living in big cities on the coast... When you take into account all these factors, the majority of sightings will always come from America..

It sure will, right on time and we will never mention meteors again!

Seriously though, this whole pope resigning and lightning striking St. Peters Bascilica, and the meteor attacking Russia(lol) all around the same time has alot of people speculating about the end of days and whatnot. Alot of people are now looking to the heavens for signs, so anytime someone see's a shooting star we should hear about it.

c'mon, alot of doom porn fell off the map when "2012" didn't happen...so...a different type of doom porn has to be created. being happy and content with your life, has turned into being ignorant and stupid. calls for "wake up" and being "sheeple" have started back up.

I think earth is moving through "something" like an asteroid field moving in from deeper space or some previously unkown field that is just now reaching inner solar system on its orbit. Hopefully nothing huge heading our way.

The United States covers less territory than say Asia. I think that is one reason for us having more reports.
Maybe there is a lot of stuff happening over US territory as well. Some questions whether some of the strange
booms and flashes are not related to meteors exploding but rather govt. tests using sound weapons. If so then
this could be happening here rather than other places in the world.

I am reviving this 2013 thread with some current and relevant information:

spacewatchtower.blogspot.com...
FEB. 17, 2015 FIREBALL SEEN OVER 4 STATES, APPEARS OVER PENNSYLVANIA
(Originally, there were 3 fireballs reported, and even in Texas I heard 3 sonic booms in a row. Was the first meteor really an enemy ET-craft, with a couple of our Deep Black triangles in pursuit down from space?)

Curiously, there were multiple fireballs seen over that same area in Sept. 2014:

www.inquisitr.com...
FOUR HUGE FIREBALLS REPORTED OVER EASTERN U.S. IN 24 HOURS
Great photo of one incoming fireball being destroyed from within with three small explosions. These needle-craft with explosives have been seen blowing up other large meteors/UFOs. They may be the military's "Rods from God". And they may have been fired from the partially visible craft in the upper right of the photo, which seems to resemble a triangle craft - like our Deep Black TR-3B.

SPECULATION ALERT!
After seeing a photo of a "glowing orb" that revealed a triangle-craft in the center, I'm beginning to think that a lot of UFOs (ours and theirs) are craft covered in glowing-plasma, to obscure the shape. More and more "glowing-orbs" or "star-like" UFO sightings are being reported, with fewer reports of well-defined craft being seen.

And if these plasma-obscured spacecraft come in too fast, or travel horizontally in the atmosphere, they probably catch fire and are then classified as a "fireball" - or flaming meteorite.

www.popsci.com...
(2004) RODS-FROM-GOD: SPACE-LAUNCHED DARTS THAT STRIKE LIKE METEORS
This was just theoretical in 2004. But when flaming-meteors were coming down all over the planet starting in 2013, "needles" were seen going into these plasma-afire ET-craft, and blowing them up from inside with three small blasts.

These Rods-From-God and even coated-craft all use technology similar to a Thermal Lance.

www.hosesandpipes.com...
LANCING EQUIPMENT - INCLUDING A THERMAL LANCE

Power steel rods packed into a lance pipe that - when ignited by heat and oxygen (both in abundance in our atmosphere during rapid re-entry) - creates a 4000 degree-C fire, that is far beyond the melting point of any substance on Earth, from concrete to steel.

Why do you think meteors are Rods from God? Just curious?

Ever think Meteors could be something else entirely. Like mostly meteors? Maybe something other than meteors or Rods from God even? I see you post a lot in the aviation forum. Have you gotten to reading all of the threads there. Some might have better answers for you.

You aren't reading my posts carefully enough. I do NOT think meteors are Rods-from-God!

We have gone thru phases of "incoming fireballs/meteors" in the past few years, which is why someone started this thread. Whether these are accidental/random (which I doubt), or ET "weaponry" designed to be disguised as meteors, using gravity and the "thermal lance" properties of our atmosphere upon rapid re-entry (which I tend to believe), or ET craft/weaponry "coated" with substances to let them catch fire upon rapid entry thru our atmosphere to disguise what they really are, is beside the point.

The main point is that we seem to be occasionally "under attack" by something/someone throwing fireballs at us from beyond our atmosphere. And (so far) every one has been exploded-from-within by a needle-shaped missile - probably fired by a TR-3B, as seen in the Inquisitor photo I posted on Feb. 20th.

Since the gravity-canceling TR-3B Triangle is still classified, their weaponry to destroy fireballs is also classified. To me, "someone" has obviously developed "Rods from God" type missiles, that can be fired and directed by the TR-3B.

I'm thinking now the TR-3Bs might be based at Fort Campbell, Georgia, at the 160th. I've read at least one UFO Report where someone on the Gulf coast near Georgia, saw a lights-out triangle low overhead one night, that was stealthily headed for the Gulf.

And the Rods-from-God they fire are probably "anti-tank missiles/rockets", since the core of most meteors that reach Earth is concentrated iron - just as tanks are heavily fortified with metal. And as classified Earth craft on a mission of utmost National Security, they would have access to the most advanced anti-tank rockets/missiles, which they could fire and direct into and thru an incoming fireball before impact.

I have been discussing these speculations in the TR-3B discussion in the "Military" forum in the past few days:

A TR-3B TOPIC ON MILITARY.com?

Waite I wanna get this right.

So aliens are mad at earth. They are ambushing us not with their own weapons but haphazardly with meteors or things disguised to look like meteors.

The earth is fighting back with the TR-3b by shooting Rods from God at the incoming meteors.

Then my worst fears are true!!!!

Damn it Admiral Thrawn is back at it again! We gotta get more people involved to stop this. More TR-3b's should be built! The public should know. We can't let him do to Earth what he did to Coruscant. I HATE ADMIRAL THRAWN!!!!!!!
I knew the greys were Nogrhi. Those little bastards! THRAAAAAAAWN!!!!!!!!!!!! We're coming for that ass! We just built the TR-6 Telos and we put Proteus on her. Yeah that's right. Run while you can. Nobody screws with our planet but us humans!!!!!!

RK's obviously couldn't get the job done in their dinky Orion ship!!! ???? Screw RK's we have 511 KEV's were sending their way.

Or ...

Ancient civilizations/species who have dabbled in Earth's past (including inter-breeding to produce hybrids), are now being forced to relocate because their homeworlds or principal colonies have been ruined - probably due to war or disaster.

But Hey! There's this lush, beautiful water world at an optimal distance from their sun. So here they come (or have been coming), claiming "ownership rights" due to all their DNA in the natives. Problem is, there are dozens of ET species here with the same idea ...

And then there's the huge Orion Constellation, with deep ties to Earth:

And some/many of the civilizations in Orion have been at war - which is destroying their system, or making it unlivable. Could the following be signs of their conflict?
