Residents of the town of Emanzhilinsk, some 50 kilometers from Chelyabinsk, said they saw a flying object that suddenly burst into flames, broke apart and fell to earth, and that a black cloud had been seen hanging above the town. Witnesses in Chelyabinsk said the city’s air smells like gunpowder.

rt.com...
That doesn't sound like a meteor. It sounds like a plane exploding.

edit on 2/15/2013 by Phage because: (no reason given)

It does. But a Russian missile wouldn't blow up a plane.

WOW, I didn't know such a thing was possible...story sounds fishy to me.
A little more technically challenging than ASAT or ABM, one would think.

DA-14 isn't a comet, is estimated at 46ish meters...

The TUNGUSKA event, was caused by an object disputed to be around 100meters+. Twice the size of DA-14, and those are the low estimates for the Tunguska object.

What was impressive about the Tunguska event? Sure it knocked down a bunch of forest, so what? No body 1 person died, no body got hurt. Houses weren't decimated. IT struck in the middle of no where, in 1908. Blew up and caused a bit of fright. Just like this little show here in Russia. Enjoy gods fireworks.

It is quite possible you are right about the size although there is alternating stories of discrepancy
towards the recorded size matter - however, your statement about the impressiveness of the
Tunguska Event is remarkably wrong.
en.wikipedia.org...
Just become s you claim, no human lives were lost does not make it unimpressive.

It is listed as Earth's largest impact in recorded history that wiped out 770 square miles of forest;
but you are right - no HUMAN lives were accounted for; as if that's ALL that mattered!!!

I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but in many countries like Russia people record while they are driving it helps if they are in an accident to prove if it isn’t there fault. There are tons of video on YouTube catching amazing things

Still. The debris field before and after an asteroid. I'm betting this is from the pre asteroid.

This is a legit sighting, but I doubt any connection to tomorrow's asteroid, and here's why.

This event was more than 12 hours prior to the expected flyby, and at an Earth orbital speed of 18 miles per second, that puts us about a million miles off the intersecting track of the asterfoid.

I say the reports of shooting them down are BS. They are moving at such a speed that missiles can’t keep up and hitting one would risk fragments hitting the earth.

That is an excellent catch. Maybe they did shoot something down,
