Dog turns up to dead owner's
church every day
*Ciccio, a 12-year-old German shepherd, waits in vain in front of the altar of the Santa Maria Assunta church in the village of San Donaci in the
southern region of Puglia.
He heads to the church as soon as the bells begin to ring each afternoon, just as he did for years when his owner was alive.
The woman, who was known in local dialect as "Maria tu lu campu" - "Maria of the fields" – died suddenly in November.
I've seen this on the night news for a while now - and it's just heartbreaking. We got notice yesterday the dog wasn't doing well but there was
nothing the veterinarian could do. As the article above explains the townspeople have been taking care of him since his owners death.
And now the bittersweet ending - The notice just came over the news Tommy passed today.

Lovely end to a touching story. (Yes, I'm glad Tommy's gone to be with his beloved).
*Note: The dog's name was TOMMY not Ciccio as reported in the article.
