So....was just checking the Fed Biz Ops on their site and saw that they have put out a request for 25 million rounds of 7.62 ammo. Is that a normal request for the Army? That seems like a LOT of 7.62.

This solicitation number W15QKN-13-R-0007 replaces old solicitation number W15QKN-12-R-E011.

Description: 7.62mm M973 (Ball) and M974 (Tracer) Short Range Training Ammunition
This is a synopsis prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 5.2, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement will be followed by a written solicitation. The solicitation will request proposals when issued.

The U.S Army Contracting Command, ACC-New Jersey intends to solicit, negotiate, and award a firm fixed price Indefinite Delivery/ Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract on a sole source basis for the manufacturing, testing, packaging, and delivery of 7.62mm M973 (Ball) and M974 (Tracer) Short Range Training Ammunition (SRTA) linked in a four (4) ball to one (1) tracer configuration (AA37) as well as an all ball configuration (AB60) using Link, Cartridge, Metallic Belt M13 links. The Government intends to award one IDIQ contract, under the authority of FAR 16.504(c)(1)(ii)(B), under Request for Proposal (RFP) # W15QKN-13-R-0007 to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems- Canada at 5 Montee des Arsenaux, Le Gardeur, Quebec, Canada, J5Z 2P4. The estimated contract ceiling quantity for the contemplated contract is 25 million rounds each with five one-year ordering periods, total time not to exceed five years from date of award. The minimum guarantee for any resultant contract is approximately $3,500,000.00.

This procurement is rated quote mark DO-A6 quote mark for national defense use, and all provisions of the Defense Priorities and Allocation System Regulation (15 CFR 700) apply.

Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals.

The Request for Proposal for this action will be available for download on Federal Business Opportunities at www.fbo.gov... on approximately 12 October, 2012. Proposals will be required within fourteen (14) days of the date of release of the RFP. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government.

This solicitation is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) page located at www.fbo.gov... and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line (NECO) site located at www.neco.navy.mil... While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. This proposed procurement is for .40 caliber ball ammunition (minimum quantity of 75 BX, maximum quantity of 23,077 BX; 1 BX = 1,300 rounds) and .40 caliber jacketed hollow point ammunition (minimum quantity of 75 BX, maximum quantity of 23,077 BX) manufactured in accordance with government specifications and drawings.

A quantity of 1,200 complete cartridges (each type) is required as product samples to be provided at solicitation closing. Award of 5-year firm-fixed price Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract is anticipated. Delivery is required within 120 days after effective date of contract award, FOB destination, with inspection and acceptance performed at source.
