Silo13- I don't have time to pull the original source, but essentially this topic was covered on a Catholic forum and someone linked this from the
"The most famous and best known prophecies about the popes are those attributed to St. Malachy. In 1139 he went to Rome to give an account of the
affairs of his diocese to the pope, Innocent II, who promised him two palliums for the metropolitan Sees of Armagh and Cashel. While at Rome, he
received (according to the Abbé Cucherat) the strange vision of the future wherein was unfolded before his mind the long list of illustrious pontiffs
who were to rule the Church until the end of time. The same author tells us that St. Malachy gave his manuscript to Innocent II to console him in the
midst of his tribulations, and that the document remained unknown in the Roman Archives until its discovery in 1590 (Cucherat, "Proph. de la
succession des papes", ch. xv). They were first published by Arnold de Wyon, and ever since there has been much discussion as to whether they are
genuine predictions of St. Malachy or forgeries. The silence of 400 years on the part of so many learned authors who had written about the popes, and
the silence of St. Bernard especially, who wrote the "Life of St. Malachy", is a strong argument against their authenticity, but it is not
conclusive if we adopt Cucherat's theory that they were hidden in the Archives during those 400 years."
While it doesn't explicitly say that they disbelieve in the prophecies, it basically says they don't know what to think about them. However, from
what others said on that forum most theologians in the Church don't think that they're genuine.
Mr. Conspiracy- If people think that the next Pope is going to be either A) the last pope or B) the antichrist himself, I don't understand how you
could not gather that this is an end of the world prediction in a round-a-bout way..
Also- from what I read December 21st was supposed to be a lot of things. I don't think there's one leading theory out there that specifically
nailed down what was to happen. I heard everything under the rainbow regarding December 21st. I also heard a lot of things regarding Y2K and all the
crap John Titor said that had forums like this ablaze in the early 2000's. If you hadn't noticed since 2012 came and went the board has been
relatively quiet in regards to end of the world threads and has been heavy on anti/pro-gun threads. I attribute this to no new "gripping" imminent
doom news surfacing.
