He's not fully operational,he's playing a game.It's probably harder for elites because they don't want to refexively kill their opponent.

Military martial arts, like the Russian hand to hand combat system, not called systema and has nothing to do with systema which is a commercial martial art from a guy in Toronto, are not about fighting someone who is trained to a large degree in hand to hand fighting techniques. MMA fighters train everyday to fight people who train everyday to fight.

A Navy Seal, Delta Operator, Force Recon Marine, Spetsnaz Alpha Group, British SAS or SBS Commando, etc are not going to just go in and beat up Jon Jones or someone. You are romanticizing every commando unit in the world if you think they are all hand to hand fighting masters.

Most are and here we see is the crux of our answer.Sports are a small effort next to what these guys can actually do.
They greatly surpass the olympic standard on a regular basis.That is how they became elite.

It depends on what level of training we are talking about here. How about we add some context.

The average soldier would get destroyed by the average fighter hands down.

The next step up from being a soldier is special forces.

The next step up from being a local champion and a UFC veteran is IMMENSE.

Now the UFC veteran vs the special forces operator in hand to hand combat,

the soldier cant get close enough without getting wrapped up by a jiu-jitsu brown belt or professional striker to use any of their techniques in the first place.

the technique they would be teaching the soldier are the same as those they teach fighters. the only difference is the fighter ONLY trains those techniques while the soldier has it as just a part of what they do.

Spetnaz, and for that matter, all special forces, secret police agencies, and military combat specialists are trained to kill with thier hands. Where an MMA guy goes for the jaw, a military trained fighter goes to break a collar bone, snap a neck, break legs and arms in one simple and smooth move, smash a rib bone through a lung, crack the sternum, and so on.

Except the SAS (at least in the 80s and 90s) often encourage head shots and MMA fighters don't stand 2ft apart from one another battering each other's faces like broken children's toys.

I don't understand lot of comments in this thread ... according to some people Navy Seals, Spetznaz and others are trained some hidden techniques to break sternums in single blows and consume opponents with lightening bolts from their eyes whilst playing guitar hero.

They then kill anyone left alive with mind bullets and float up into the air carrying a 600lb carry load and epically back hand Chuck Norris and hope the edge of their hand doesn't cleave down a local city building killing thousands of civilians.

Except you quote most special forces soldiers outside of hollywood nonsense and they say they are taught simple techniques that anyone can use that don't take a life time to master and are practical ... but they avoid it as much as possible.

I don't like fighting much at all but even a person like me can see it's comparing screw drivers to spades.

Hand to hand trumps MMA period. I could disable Mr Lidell by a knee cap sweep,which is illegal and that is the deal.You can't deploy injurious techniques for obvious reasons.
No practice no muscle memory,zip,zero,nada.
No protective measures employed from temple strikes or the ever so simple throat strikes.
No SEAL, Spetznaz or ANY elite wants to go to jail so they don't destroy civilians willy nilly.Any sport in a ring is for what?
Say it with me kids...ENTERTAINMENT.Missions aren't on the line.lives aren't at stake,it's just money.
If it were so simple then just being an athlete could do what elites do and we would have a great deal, more the military would love that.
