Just got this through a friend on a social network.

A cordon has been put in place in the city centre after police received reports of a suspicious package.

Police were called to New York Street at 7.35am to reports of a suspicious package having been left near to the Mecure Manchester Piccadilly hotel.

A cordon has been put in place and a number of roads are shut while the incident is dealt with.

The incident is likely to affect some bus and tram journeys and motorists and commuters are advised to avoid the area.

A 100 metre cordon has been put in place and bomb disposal experts are en route.

-- This is only just breaking, so I can't comment too much yet. Wonder what it is and who left it?

Sorry for the late reply, got distracted. According to the first link it turns out it was an abandoned laptop, which was destroyed by the police.

So besides a few disruptions, everything is okay!
