Been a while since ive heard something so stupid

I say that every time I hear idiots speak about fairness while being comfortable and well fed and advocating against the "evils" of capitalism, but not mentioning that they are the reason why it exists.....evil....pfft.

Evil is lying and being a hypocrite. Evil is not appreciating that we educate, feed, protect, and make comfortable MILLIONS of people in our countries everyday. That people can come here and live like what the rest of the world considers "being rich". :well fed, educated, healthy and happy......

the world is ungrateful. Capitalism made your life the way it is....how evil indeed.

the alternative? Live like the third world with all its problems and in fear of when it may all be lost.

If capitalism made my life the way it is then that's even more reason to hate it.

I actually give a damn about people that work for absolutely nothing so that people in the west can have big wardrobes and some little gadgets. I give a # that a handful of people are making millions per year off the backs of people born into poverty with no chance of bettering themselves. What can i say, i have a heart and i didnt have to buy the #er from a shelf in a shop.

costa ricans also have much different expectations as far as living standards.

They dont have more kids than they can afford. Dont spend as much on entertainment or comfort. They dont expect for a huge government agency to solve every little thing. They do for themselves.

They also dont have to spend on security the way the US has to. Being the worlds police force is really expensive and it is high time we get a smaller bill and lesser responsibilities. All the defense monies spent would /should go to the citizenry in the form of less taxes. Not hand outs.

We should take from Costa Rica what is applicable. A better example is Chile. They also dont expect to live the way Europeans and Americans do.

Like I said, we have to take our way of life down several notches before we suggest any sort of "fairness".

Also the western nations have to step up and pay more. They have to each pay and participate for the secure and stable world we now enjoy.

That means they will have to sacrifice all the little comforts they think they are entitled to. Our idea of "rights" cost blood and money.

Is that honestly what you think?

Maybe computers would be around without capitalism, but i can tell you one thing, you would not be able to buy one with a few weeks pay if it was made any other way.

Cant afford to buy a computer off the bat anyhow so what does it matter? They build things like computers to become obsolete within a couple of years anyhow. If built under a more sustainable system, electronics especially, would be built to last. That is a fact.

Perhaps you should read up on the start of the industrial revolution in britain, a very telling story of how wonderful capitalism is. Its a machine without a heart. I couldnt care less if a computer was removed from my life, there's always books.

Cant believe you actually think that without capitalism we wouldn't have technologically advanced. I dont honestly believe you know what you're talking about. America, richest nation in the world? Lololololol

so you blame the millionaires but dont mention the others like you and I on computers worth the annual salary of a third world worker. You drive a car on gas paid for at far less than the fair price. You eat food grown and picked by people at near slave wages, everything from your coffee to your china made blankets you sleep in. If you live in the west, then you benefit from it.

You dont have to be a millionaire to accept your fair share of blame, since that is what this argument is about. A clear conscience.

You shouldnt have one. The only way to not be a participant is to move to a third world country. OR live a humble life of sacrifice with nearly no comforts and donate all you excess to those you supposedly advocate for. Live in their shoes.

costa ricans also have much different expectations as far as living standards.

This is true. I think theirs are better.

Costa Rica is one of the healthiest places on earth. In one area of Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, people have some of the longest lifespans on record. The Costa Rican health care system is highly rated (even higher than the U.S.), with universal health insurance and world-class public and private hospitals. The public health insurance system is known as the CAJA, and all citizens and legal residents are required to participate. For the typical retiree, the cost averages $50 to $65 per month.

No wonder life in Costa Rica is so appealing.

What about other costs? For sure you can live like a rock star in Costa Rica on $4,000 per month. Most expats, though, report that they are living quite happily and without sacrifices on a monthly budget of $1,500 to $2,500. That's for two people living in a mid-range, two-bedroom home, and includes rent, utilities, transportation and Internet.

You'll save, too, on the little things that matter the most, but can add up. Like:

• Ticket to see a movie in a modern theater -- $5
• Tickets to see a cultural event at the National Theater start at $2
• Ticket to see a National Soccer Team Match in the brand-new stadium -- $20
• Fresh Red Snapper -- approximately $2.50 per pound
• A pound of beans -- $0.90 per pound
• A pound of rice -- $0.50 per pound
• Four avocadoes -- $2
• Pineapples -- $1 each
• A bottle of Imperial beer -- $1.25
• A pack of local cigarettes -- $2.20
• Bus ride from downtown San Jose to Escazu -- $0.55
• Bus ride from San Jose to Jaco Beach (60 miles) -- $4.11

But it's not just the potential cost savings that you should consider... it's the overall improvement in your quality of life. Better weather. Beautiful scenery. Healthcare that's not only high quality, but affordable. Less stress. And one more thing...

Sociologists say Costa Ricans are the happiest people on the planet.

I bet,

that sounds about right. I have known a couple of Costa Ricans. That info is true.

They also dont have a military, and their population is really low.

now, do people there compare themselves to millionaires? No....they do not. They consider themselves wealthy, and the average joe from the west, they see as sultans.

Average joe from the west: sees himself as a slave, because he compares himself to a millionaire. Costa Ricans he sees as living in poverty because they dont have the latest car and the new Iphone. Or because they dont have food for several months stock piled in their cabinets. Or because all their kids dont all go to college. Or because they dont go on vacation every year, or buy new clothing with each new season. ect....

We have to appreciate what we got instead of looking at what millionaires have. Being a millionaire is not our right. You have to earn GREAT wealth.

I know, they should increase their salaries.

You drive a car on gas paid for at far less than the fair price.

Actually i cant afford to drive. Go figure.

You eat food grown and picked by people at near slave wages, everything from your coffee to your china made blankets you sleep in. If you live in the west, then you benefit from it.

"Supply and demand" does not provide choice to the consumer. Often they lie about their products anyhow to make them seem more relatable and less guilty for the consumer. "This meat is from british farmers, This is 100% beef, This coffee is fair trade" BS BS BS.

You dont have to be a millionaire to accept your fair share of blame, since that is what this argument is about. A clear conscience.

Is it really within MY power to fix the insatiable greed of someone else?

You shouldnt have one. The only way to not be a participant is to move to a third world country. OR live a humble life of sacrifice with nearly no comforts.

Trust me, i dont have the money to be spending on this and that, i only buy what i need these days.

I wanted to buy a pair of running shoes that i knew had not been a product of someone being paid barely anything to make it - Not possible. All running shoes were manufactured in developing nations. I searched for brands that could provide me with some trainers that were made under fair conditions. None exist. What am i suppose to do?

Not all people in the "west" have big wardrobes or millions, obviously.

I am considered poor by western standards but still have more than those in other countries.

I know how much this bugs anti-capitalist, but consider how desperate some of the other countries peoples would be without the donations of food and medicine and aid capitalist nations send them,

Who would come to their aid, and I don't mean weapons.

But I have come to realize that that is a double edged sword, we have made them to dependent, maybe they would have been better off if they could have lived traditionally, I dunno.

I have a friend whose son has this mind set that capitalism is evil, he lives at home and mom and dad pay for everything including his schooling and now the luck devil can stay on mommies insurance until he is twenty-five, now I wouldn't have a problem with this except he continually harps about the elderly getting their social security.
go figure

Some may do it illegally. MOST, workaholics.

Truth be told, we are seeing capitalism. We are seeing the free market. From what I take of capitalism, it is a system that awards people who execute the most heartless strategies for monetary gain.

Like I said, you’re just parroting Marxist propaganda.

CAPITALISM

Free market capitalism can be defined as "a system wherein individuals are free to pursue their own interests, make voluntary exchanges, and hold private property rights in goods and services." Allowing consumers and producers to trade at mutually agreed upon prices, free market capitalism is a system characterized by voluntary rather than coercive exchange. In such a system, the role of government is limited: protecting individuals' basic rights to life, liberty, property, and association; providing a legal system for the enforcement of contracts; and defending individuals against internal and external threats of physical force.

CRONY CAPITALISM

By contrast, whether referred to as cronyism, corporatism, mercantilism, liberal fascism, or venture socialism, crony capitalism is simply the cooperation of government and business. While this cooperation benefits the involved business and politician(s), it generally hurts the politically and corporately unconnected. Furthermore, the power and benefits of crony capitalism can often lead to corruption, a fact which James Madison recognized when he stated, "Wherever there is an interest and power to do wrong, wrong will generally be done, and not less readily by a powerful & interested party than by a powerful and interested prince."
link

What we have now is crony capitalism where the government and business are in bed together. If we had capitalism then government would be looking out for our interests rather than their own.

What you said there is very telling…”their FAIR SHARE”

Thing is I dont think a single letter to congress or any representative had the words: Please see that our cost of living go up to compensate those we exploit....

The top 10% of wage earners in the US pay 71% of all income tax while they earn 43% of all income. The bottom 50% of wage earners pay 2% of all income tax yet they earn 13% of total income.

IN FACT, half of Americans who file taxes pay ZERO INCOME TAX.

I’m all about people paying their FAIR SHARE! Let’s start with the 50% who pay NOTHING!

Exactly! Capitalism has been hijacked! The Hollywood elite and the politically elite that scream about how unfair capitalism is are extremely wealthy! They got theirs, they are set for life. Now they just have to win your hearts and minds by telling you how unfair it is while sipping a glass of wine, BTW that bottle of wine cost 10k.

I agree.

I am not advocating any form of socialism or communism.

I dont parrot.

and I agree. fair share actually means that these people talking about the evils of capitalism stop enjoying it so much (or step with their wallet in hand.....)

I dont believe in entitlement. I live a life of hard work and excessive taxation. I am fine with that. I dont ask for more than I earn. I pay up the ass and get little to nothing back for it. I am fine with that too. If I want luxury and comfort I want to earn it. (well "fine" ....with that....I deal with it)

It is not the same as doing for yourself when it is handed to you.

Also, what you describe as the impurity of capitalism is actually corporativism /corpratism. The government should only set limitations, restrictions in a capitalism. There should not be ANY public money going to a bad business.

The market should correct itself. If you are a bad business then you should fail. "too big to fail" is non existent in capitalism.

If you are that bad because people dont like your product or services they choose another they do like and he takes over your market weight.

I dont know why you think I am advocating for the rich to pay more taxes? I think we should have LESS taxes. I would prefer a smaller government with much less spending.

endoftheamericandream.com... that-every-american-should-know

Right now, there is a lot of talk about the evils of “capitalism”. But it is not really accurate to say that we live in a capitalist system. Rather, what we have in the United States today, and what most of the world is living under, is much more accurately described as “corporatism”.

Under corporatism, most wealth and power is concentrated in the hands of giant corporations and big government is used as a tool by these corporations to consolidate wealth and power even further. In a corporatist system, the wealth and power of individuals and small businesses is dwarfed by the overwhelming dominance of the corporations. Eventually, the corporations end up owning almost everything and they end up dominating nearly every aspect of society.

So being born into poverty is no excuse as to why you cant do better?

Oh my lord, the mentality of some people is truly laughable

You sir, have brought a tear to my eye! Been a while since ive heard something so stupid

I was born into poverty. The first pair of new shoes I ever owned I purchased with my own money I earned working on a neighboring farm. Up until 13, every other pair of shoes Ihad were hand-me-downs. I worked hard, sometimes making less than minimum wage, put in the effort, got every bit of education I could, all with the idea that I would better my self. Yeah, I could have sat on my ass and blamed everyone around me for my plight, but that's not the way to get ahead.

I must have misunderstood your post. It’s hard to tell context sometimes… I was responding to your comment:

Sounds like the Obama mantra….FAIR SHARE BS. That’s what I was rebuking.

then have you been advocating for people in the west to pay their fair share to the third world?

Or have you been asking that millionaires pay what should be ALL our fair share?

Give me one proper reason why working poverty should be allowed to thrive in modern times? Why is it, if everyone is putting in, why are only a handful benefiting?

"Why are they multimillionaires in the first place? Answer that for me."

Work, 5:am alarm clocks, 9 p.m. bed times, family sacrificing for generations, no weekends, no holidays, no fun...work work work.

Seriously? So the 100 richest people on the planet follow the very same routine as you've stated then? Get real

If you and everyone else paid their fair share, the third world would be better off.

If big business did not monopolise industry, buy governments, block the formation of unions and ultimately # developing countries in the ass, People would be getting a bigger slice of the pie.

Thing is I dont think a single letter to congress or any representative had the words: Please see that our cost of living go up to compensate those we exploit....

How about a letter to the owner of Nike and its shareholders asking them to pay proper wages to their factory workers? You'd think i were asking for a bone marrow donation.
