www.bbc.co.uk...

The 2m (7ft) long lizard attacked a park ranger in his office, then turned on another employee who tried to come to his aid. Both suffered serious leg wounds and were being monitored in hospital. Komodo dragons are the world's largest lizards, growing up to 3m long, with razor-sharp teeth and a poisonous bite. The dragons' jaws contain highly poisonous glands that can cause paralysis. The reptiles are unique to a small group of islands in eastern Indonesia. They live on a diet of mainly large mammals, smaller reptiles and birds

You can now add park rangers to that list LOL

I had to post this just because of the headline I could type.
I know it's more serious than that, but it's not everyday you read that in the headlines.

I don't blame you on the title, it sure got my attention.

I am curious though, has an antidote been created for their saliva?
Because if not, I would think the men could very possibly lose their legs.

Or maybe it just requires heavy doses of antibiotics?

Guess I have some reading to do.

By the time I could get one maid, discoveries would already be made of fire breathing dragons.

This is a very dangerous situation for the bite victims. The enzymes in the Komodo Dragon's saliva literally rots the flesh. That is one of the things that allow Komodos to survive despite the fact that some of their prey is faster than them. The Komodo bites its prey, the enzymes in the saliva start to rot the flesh and kill the prey with poison even if it temporarily escapes, and the dragon (who has an excellent sense of smell) just follows the smell of rotting flesh until it comes upon its victim- which is usually near death by the time the dragon catches up.

Man there is a lot of bad info, but I did find out that they actually do have venom, in addition to the highly bacterial saliva.
Treatment includes both antibiotics and sterilization of the infected area, but the possibility of limb loss is real.

Nasty buggers!

So was I.

Those lizards are huge and cool, but I wouldn't want to get too close to one.
