I knew this day was coming...

The hard reality of life is, you don't win every time.

We have done a disservice to these young people. So how do kids deal with it?

They create a false reality. You can make your phone into a self admiration device.

It will tell you how wonderful you are. Look at how many friends you have. Who needs reality?

I am going to tell the EGAT Generation the hard core truth.

You really are not that "SPECIAL". I know Mom and your friends have told you that from birth.

But really, that's kind of like getting a trophy you do not deserve.

We didn't want to hurt your feelings.

Now if you are very young and already on ATS...All I can think of to say is...

Here's your trophy....

It's just a shame that there are no jobs for them.

I pity young people today who don't have the opportunities their parents had, never mind the opportunities enjoyed by their baby boomer grandparents.

That's a bit unfair,
I read a brilliant intro from a 15 year old earlier today I was so impressed I posted a thread about it. Sure the kids today aren't any more special than we were. But we weren't any more special than our parents.
My parents didn't even have a bike as kids, I had a computer ( well a commodore 64 :lol
that's just it, technology evolves as do the kids.

Sure we didn't get any molly coddling and grew up with hard knocks, but there are plenty of kids out there growing up the old fashioned way, mine included.

Yep, yep, Yep.

Your so right.

Except now when they find out their not "special" some of them can't handle it and lose their minds and just strike out at other people. Maybe we can call it the "Lanza effect".

A whole generation of egotistical, selfish, self centered people who think their special and that new trophy should be handed to them whether it be a new car, job or huge house.

When they can't earn it on their own they get upset and call themselves the 99%'ers and blame the "rich" people
who actually worked for what they have.

get ready for the flames though because most the people on here probably fall into that category........

.......and they don't like to hear or admit the truth.

I work with these young people all day long at a university library. By and large they are all working part time, some of them full time, to put themselves through school. They work without complaint. They don't have an ounce of the entitlement mentality that so many older people want to foist upon them. They are eager to take on new challenges and to do new things. In short, they're a delight to work with and be around.

Shush with the reality and truth stuff....

I work with inner city kids. Mainly in the summer, but still in the winter here and there. People love to look down on the younger folks.. myself, Ive found a lot of hope for the future within this newer generation.

My intent was not to lump every child into this Generation.

There are wonderful kids out there that need all of our support.

With that being said....It seems we are teaching our kids, that if you didn't win.

Just take this trophy and pretend you did win.

The message should be...If you did not win. Work Harder !!!

I appreciate you pointing out it's not all kids. Also, the respectful disagreement.

Point taken...

I would never foist anything on anyone.

Thanks for your hard work.

Fair comment and it will pan out at work, our apprentice refuses to make the tea (traditionally part of the apprentice's role) as it is not in his job description so us older guys take turns, guess what ? The apprentice has to make his own, not too bad but we make it 5 minutes before breaks so we all sit down with a cup, the apprentice has to boil the kettle and make his own losing relaxation time. He's a nice kid just not too bright

I see older people using cell phones all the time. That picture is dumb. Plus your entire point is based on invalid assumptions. Older people create false realities too. I'd say more so than younger people. You know who watches the most sit-coms. Older people. Do you know the average age of video gamers? It's in the 30s.

Plus, it wasn't my generation that got the world into the mess it's in now. It was YOUR generation. So quit blaming us for the world's problems you bitter old man.

Actually what they need to realize (and I think many do) is that they are (special) and important to their friends and family...the ones who love and care about them.

However...in the real world...there are going to be people who do not and will not ever care about them or think they are special; and there will be people who will try and deceive them; telling them they are special (lying to them) to use them; get something from them and/or to destroy them. They need to realize that in life there are truly evil people in society too.

They need to be on their guard and realize that society is made up of (the good, the bad, the ugly and the evil).

And so speaks the baby boomer generation:

For whom schools were built by the thousands when they were of elementary school and high school age,

For paid for university and college with grants and loans and if they happened to have a bit of debt after graduation, well they simply declared bankruptcy

So speaks the generation who demanded every possible perk from the government at every decade of their lives.

So speaks the generation, who not only got well-paying jobs and accumulated debt so that they could have expensive vacations, big houses and luxury cars. But even that wasn't enough, they also spent their inheretances from financially savey greatest generation.

So speaks the generation that will leave NOTHING to their kids, having consumed it all like a flock of locusts.

Tired of Control Freaks

You can act like what I said isn't true. But it is. Older generations are just as tied to their cellphones as the younger ones.

Plus, you sound extremely bitter.

I'm 19 years old and I am apart of this whole generation you call egotistical, selfish, and self centered. I remember when I was a child and I recieved a trophy, even though my team did not do very well, I remember thinking it was ridiculous to recieve a reward for doing nothing...So, before you judge MY generation take a look at the one who raised us. If you think we turned out horrible...well...that's on the generation before us, which i'm assuming is YOUR generation.

As for myself, and many others like me, my parents raised me the "old fashioned" way and I know i have nothing guaranteed to me. So before you or anybody else, goes off and judges a whole generation as egotistical, selfish and self centered...use that little body part they call the brain and DON'T. It's very offensive to the people that don't fit into that category and are working their butt's off to change that stereotype. Stop putting yourself on a pedestal, and take a look at how much your generation has done for this country....oh wait...

Those are great points.

I think what I'm trying to convey is, not that you are not special to your family.

We all certainly are. My point is, out of their 500+ so called "Friends" on their phone.

How many of those people could they call if they had a flat tire?

My guess is they could count the people that would come to their aid on one hand.

Hence my suggestion of alternate reality.

I could be wrong...I have already been called a bitter old man...

And a great way to show what they do not "approve" of in the Music industry (or society for that matter), they do not like brashness (unless they control it) they do not like uniqueness (unless they brand it) and they definitely do not like individuality (Unless they clone it!).

The everyone gets a trophy Generation might just save this world from the GLUTTONOUS reaping the previous Baby Boomers did to this country. They may even save their STUPID grandparents from a certain death from burning down the very house they live in (personally I would have let them burn...)

Let me remind you this Generation has yet to take power from the COLD DEAD hands of SPOILED A-holes hellspawn born of the Greatest Generation on earth! Their parents led this country through a World War and it was their children's (BOOMERS) greed and shortsightedness that has put this very world in the crap bin...
