The job was dirty in Irak, that's true there was blood everywhere. But no WMD as far as I know.

You know what WAS there....3 mercenaries for every 1 US soldier. All this BS about the evils of the US made these same scum bags use careless and ruthless mercenaries with no oversight instead of US troops for Iraq because it was easier than actually addressing this nonsense. I f the US was NOT blamed like that was normal somehow doing the things the west NEEDS done, MAYBE we could do our jobs and not rely on mercenaries that kill because they are above the law and any oversight.

The real reason why people bitch is because they are encouraged to by the same scum bags. They make a quick buck by making everyone spend on "measures" for the evils of the world, which is just money down the drain and into their pocket. It is retarded on their part though because in the long run they NEED for the US to do its job and keep the spice flowing.

The spice must flow, be by mercenaries or US troops. I think Iraq would have been better off without the mercenary F fest they had going on.

I don't really share your point of view but at least I agree with both of your statements

There were US soldiers in Irak.
And a lot of mercenaries were there too. Like in Lybia.

Why do you feel so offended when people blame the evil corporations pulling the strings? Even if, true, they often short-cut it to "the US". You know they're not talking about your person, right?

we could go on at this at length, despite our broad agreement on some of the related matters... but i have been involved in quite a few 1-1's in threads recently that have taken them quite far off topic as i feel this would, so i'm not going into this right now

I may come off as feeling personally slighted. That is not the case. I have been told that I can be pretty intense. Spanish blood.

I just see that we need to rethink our strategy. All the solutions we think are our options are being offered to us by the same people making the problem. PC, Lib, Hard line right, hawks......all BS..

Sorry if I went nuts.

I just really want to work the problem, not each other.

Like I said before, the little guy making the two who could crush him to fight each other....

fair enough. I think I said my peace and then some. Others probably want to say their peace as well. It was healthy for me to get that out of my system so thanks.

I think the lack of a “outcry” is due to two factors, firstly the Mali government requested the assistance of the French and secondly its France and not America.

To take ATS as a prime example, ATS has become Americanised it’s only really an international forum by the virtue that it exists in cyberspace but in practicality the American members monopolise the boards with American conspiracies and affairs that affect America. This I think is a bad thing, a war breaks out in Mali with French forces fighting Al-Qa’ida insurgents and at the same time we have French forces failing in a hostage rescue attempt in Somalia then a whole bunch of hostages taken in Algeria. Think about how different the boards would have looked if instead of the word “French” I said “American”. While all this was going on, an even that should have been talked about by everyone on ATS, conspiracy or not conspiracy most on ATS where too busy talking about a silly little change to American gun law that doesn’t affect anyone out of America. It’s very annoying but because ATS is monopolised by mostly Americans this huge even passed by with only a hand full of threads that between them probably got less attention that a thread about Peirce Morgan talking to Alex Jones about guns. ATS should be ashamed of this as a community.

In the wider press, I have seen it as a feature on the evening news and it is being reported on quite a bit, at least in the UK. The reason this coverage has not been “Anti-French” the way one might expect if it were a American operation is because the Mali government want the French to help them out. It has nothing to do with the left or right of the political spectrum if France had not intervened there is a chance that Mali may have been taken over by a terrorist group. The French as the old colonial power who have had pervious dealings with Al-Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb (an evolution of the anti-French group the GIA) would make sense as the military force to intervene when the Mali’s are unable to do so. There really isn’t much for anyone to complain about as the intervention is just, what is controversial in the UK just now is the extent of our involvement and I am sure this will be the same in America.

It has nothing to do with the views of the left or France being a “socialist country” as you call it, something I would disagree with. The reasons that America is often accused of warmongering and imperialism should be looked at in regards to the wars started by America rather than asking why similar accusations are not cast upon the French when they take part in military intervention.

Also for the record OP, America and the UK have been playing a role in Mali all be it a small one so it’s not just a French operation.

I wanted to throw my two cents in on this...or two sets of stats.

(2011 UN Contribution %'s)

(2012 Global Military Spending)

CHARTS: U.S. Military Spending Is Totally Out Of Control And Can't Last

America isn't the best in the world by some Birthright or special "American Ju-Ju" that makes us all super-duper or something. America is the best because even after all the graft, over-billing and general corruption is accounted for, we're still outspending the rest of the world combined in measurable categories. It's destroying our nation and it's hitting the tipping point for that quickly. Anyone else in the world that wants to fill that void? I'm with another member in thinking. They can have it. Most of the public here is tired of supporting the rest of the world...GOOD as well as bad.

Well, Al-Queda is the invention of the US - so technically they're just killin US terrorists.. Let the battle continue!

no offense but another talking head.........

No its not an invention of america........

Its an American and allied armed insurgency indigenous to that region, with its already formed ideals, financed and supplied by the American gov to push out the soviets..............who turned against those who funded them........

They already had their extremist views long before we got to them.........we just were stupid and gave them the means..........

Lets not parrot the idiocy ........

Everyone can bitch all they want about the US but if we didnt do the job right someone else would have to and would do a lesser job because honestly, they are not equal to us militarily.

I guess you have forgotten about how great the mighty USA is at dishing out friendly fire.

check this out
and this

The US is tired of keeping world security and stability for an ungrateful and vile society.

You couldn't be any further from the truth. The USA love sticking their nose into the world's affairs. But only if they have something to gain from it, of course.

DO IT YOUR SELVES, and then we can sit back and reap the benefits of you spending your nations wealth and losing your people to keep our civilization going.

Please pull your head out of your overly-patriotic backside.

Um, buddy, you obviously have no idea what war entails. That does happen and on all sides. I dont know war personally and still know that. Besides what does that have to do with what you replied to? How is that an indication of others countries being equal to us militarily? 0.o

You couldn't be any further from the truth. The USA love sticking their nose into the world's affairs. But only if they have something to gain from it, of course.

Um, again, that is neither here nor there. We SHARE what we kill. Do you deny that every western nation has corporations that benefit from the US´s efforts? Do you deny we keep resources flowing to the western world at lower than fair prices? Or at all.....

Why dont you ask that your government make you all pay more for the things you use. Like oil, natural gas, foods of all type like coffee, tea, agricultural products, ect...why do you always ask to pay less when you should be paying MORE for the standard of living you have compared to the third world? When you go on vacation to poorer countries why dont you pay 10 times what they charge instead of haggling with them. You live in the west and they live in crap because of YOUR STANDARD of living.

Please pull your head out of your overly-patriotic backside.

No really. Do it yourselves. Pay 20+% of UN operating costs without mentioning armed interventions. Pay for most of NATO´s operating costs. Send your own best and brightest into enemy territory to keep the amount of wealth and resources the west enjoys. Also take on our international obligations to keep the world stable and secure. If not shut the hell up, put on your designer shoes, eat some tofu and spend the night slapping 20´s onto the bar for cocktails while the world wallows in the misery that you and people like you enjoy the benefit of.

Pull your head out of your delusional and ungrateful ass.

to quote myself from another thread that *Surprisingly applies to this one and your post in particular.

These threads are retarded, or people are this retarded. The jury is still out.

So the tards are all in agreement?

Ok. Petition your governments to pay more /their fair share of UN and NATO operating costs.A stable and secure world is not free.

Take on the US´s responsibilities internationally which are to secure the resources and wealth the west needs to maintain its standard of living and have ANYONE in your family enlist with the knowledge that they may DIE to do that.

If not, get used to having less, MUCH LESS. In fact get used to a level playing field with the third world where they are MUCH better off and you and your families are MUCH worse off.

Oh, you like the standard of living you have do you? You think you get that because you are so awesome?

No. You get to live the way you do because the west makes that possible. You think people just hand over wealth and resources? Do you? No, in fact they look to take yours. Sorry, while the third world is the under dog, they are in fact still human and would want YOUR STANDARD of living and would do the same if not worse than us to get it.

You dont want it? OK, then give it to the third world you are SOO worried about. OR PAY and SACRIFICE your fair share for it.

Think austerity is bad? Ok, then let the US invade some one for their resources it will SHARE with Europe. NO, that is unthinkable....then put your signs away and get back to work...

Cake AND eat it....sorry, retards, that will never happen. Never has.

If the US is the big bad guy, why do your countries keep asking for its intervention behind the scenes so their economies dont collapse?

Think France is helping anyone in Mali? It is just a coincidence that they have lots of gold and that they are the third largest producer of the natural gas Europe needs huh.....you think they get a fair price paid to them?

Turn off your heat or pay that fair price....OR SEND IN FRENCH TROOPS to secure the country and its stability so your resources dont dwindle....the way the US has done for over 70 years so the west can live like it does.

But dont think for a second France isnt "meddling" in Mali. "If the locals want radical Islamists to represent them who is anyone to interfere". Dont even start with that the puppet government asked for Frances help. MAYBE THE LOCALS are tired of the west and its needs...."Why not let them be free", and you be as well off as the third world.

You ungrateful world.

/end rant.
