Hey folks,

I live in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, and I noticed this afternoon that the American flags at the U.S. embassy were at half-mast. I came back and checked on the news to see if anything had happened or anyone had died, but nada...

Could my American friends here tell me if they know what's up? A commemorative day for a war or an event, maybe?

Thank you.

Ah... was told by an American friend of mine that it could be in commemoration of the stock market crash, 75 years ago today.

That makes sense, then.

Probably showing respect for the impending death of freedom for Americans.
Election is only 4 days away.

8 Marines were killed in Fallujah today. Would that be the reason?

Wasn't a member of the State Dept. or some such official killed when that explosion occured in the 'Green Zone' a couple of weeks ago? That may be it, it's not like they would do that for just reg. soldiers (even though they should). Haven't seen anything else on the news that would explain it.
