I think you meant that it doesn't work as a deterrent, didn't you?

I happen to agree with you. I even think that if we televised executions, the biggest percentage of viewers would be sociopaths and murderers, because they'd like to see that kind of stuff.

That's OK. The death penalty doesn't need to be a deterrent to be effective. Think of it as killing a rabid dog. It may not stop other dogs from biting, but it sure will stop that dog from biting.


And just because we believe in execution does not put us at the killers level; it doesn't make us "just as bad" as him. It actually means that we are able to realize that certain measures are necessary in order to maintain a certain level of civilization. Hiding from that fact is regressive, not progressive.
