My mistake I read it as having been posted on the second.

Either way that was a bit harsh but I have been guilty of the same thing so no hard feelings. But to answer part of your question, I myself put more faith in word of mouth these days than the actual news. All they seem to do is report with a bias generally slanted in their bosses favor and screw up the facts all around. Which was also one of the main reasons I posted in this forum as it's not really braking news so to say, but this topic is being fought on so many fronts that some of the best informed info I have received has been from reliable sources.

I should have added this to the 1st post in this thread as it is very important to have a listen.
It is about 5 min long at best.

Here is a podcast with the Sheriff of Erie county Tim Howard speaking out and posing most of the same questions we all have lately. podcast.wben.com...

And a link to the Erie County Sheriff site with his message in type form.

Wow, it appears there is a fight brewing over this then.

If you have the cops against it that certainly looks bad for the politicians.

Not only that, I would imagine a lawsuit is going to be filed if it hasn't already. They'll be able to grab guns and mags til the courts overturn it.

I'd like to add although no official statement of this kind has be announced by the Sheriff's Department in my county, I do have three friends who work for the Sheriff's Department.

One close friend just finished his first year and confirmed that many coworkers would not uphold any of these unconstitutional laws; however, there are still a few in the force that will do whatever it takes to get promoted.

My other two friends have confirmed the above. One served in the Marines and made it to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E7) while the other served in the Army as a Captain (O3). I've given you their ranks to add to their credentials.

Side note: My friend who served in the Marines told me a test was given in the late 80's at his base to all of the enlisted personnel. One of the questions on the test asked each marine if they would fire on civilians if ordered to do so. Fortunately, from what my friend told me, it was estimated 98% of the marines said they would not fire on civilians if an order was given. I find it sad how that question is now supposedly being directed toward today's officers (I haven't heard if this was confirmed or denied yet).

See the problem is that in NY State Troopers are not covered as a law enforcement or peace officers. They are under executive law. They were not held to any of the provisions in the new law. It has made some law enforcement in my area quite angry. It's interesting to see what political affiliation some of these law enforcement areas are. Sheriffs are directly in the political scene as the heads are elected. Police chiefs get there appointments through mayors.

I am not holding out much hope for the troopers. I just don't trust them like I should, I get the impression that they are part of the problem and are just a bunch of yes men when push comes to shove like it is right now. I could be wrong and hope I am. As I am sure there are many troopers out there that feel the same way as us, but would they put their career on the line and their pension? Thats the million dollar question.

This was quite easy to read and informative. It doesn't need to have it's message shortened for the members who have ADD and can't concentrate on anything more than a few seconds long.

It seems the good people of NY are drawing a line in the sand.
I think anyone with two braincells knows progressives could care less about the 2nd.

I believe the progressives screwed up big time and they are acting to fast. They should have waited another 20 years and used the everybody wins generation to enact this plan. But progressives are arrogant. They wanted to use this tragedy and figured peoples apathy and fear would let them get a huge foot in the door. Guess they were wrong.

Progressives will always fail and ya wanna know why? They are weak of heart and they flap in the wind like a plastic bag. Pathetic does not even come close to describing just how lacking they are. They can not even agree amongst themselves. I believe the Nazi party was the best showing progressives have put up. I do not believe they can top that.

What an ignorant post. Or were you trolling?

So what you're saying is that roughly half the population doesn't care about the constitution? The facts are myself, and plenty of people who would label themselves "progressive", "liberal" , "leftist" are STRONGLY in favor of the 2nd Amendment and the constitution. Way to ramp up the divisiveness. It's supposed to be us against them, not us against each other. Furthermore I know plenty of GOP, Republican, conservative, NEOCONS who would love nothing more than for the public to be disarmed. Are you really so close-minded that you think you're in some kind of war against the left? Snap out of it. You're being brain-washed. Unless you really don't believe any of it and are instead trying to spread a false narrative?

Subtruth, your name could not be more apt.

I appreciate both sides of the gun control argument. This is one of those rare issues which the arguments on both sides have merit. Historically, I've always been a gun control kind of guy. When the Clinton's pushed through the temporary assault weapon ban, I was all for it. However, my perspective has now changed and I'm no longer a gun control supporter.

I think this issue has to be viewed in the context of a tanking economy, a deepening recession / depression and a government unable or unwilling to figure out how to get it back on track. We tell our politicians we need jobs and they all agree. However, when we elect them they arrive in Washington where they are suddenly all concerned about gay rights, and The President's birth certificate. No jobs.

At the rate things are going, how long before there is legitimate civil unrest because people's benefits are cut? Wouldn't the government love to make certain their citizens are not capable of threatening them when the government steps in to control the population?

NO, I think I like the guns right where they are at this point in American History. I'm depending on you gun enthusiasts to stand up for all of our rights. Screw the NRA, America is depending on you.

They're not required to enforce an illegal law. On top of that the Obama justice department has chosen not to enforce many laws that are legal, so that sets precedent for not enforcing laws.

Its a good thing you bring up the tanking economy because here in NYS there are not many good jobs left. And unfortunately with the passing of this bill firearm manufacturers might decide to leave the state all together. Now theres more jobs leaving the state that will not be replaced. A loss of tax revenue etc. Just makes no sense. But they wanna open more casinos like anyone has the money to be going there these days, not to mention the additional crime that comes with them.

They do not have to enforce it or enact it. Where does this misconception come from? They must however, enforce the constitution and uphold it. They need to tell everyone that they will not enforce it or shut up.
We have no need for anymore enforcers of gun control. Until they say they will not enforce these illegal laws they have no respect from me. They're just more lap dogs. They need to man up and get tough against their handlers.
I've said it before and say it again. Everyone needs to mark those who bring gun control up for debate in the media and in government and when the war comes that we don't want, make sure those we marked are in the frontlines.

This is where the rubber meets the road. WE need to start circling the wagons and protect our fellow citizens. There needs to be others to step up and take their place and people need to arm themselves and have friends around to watch each others back. Better smart up or die. There is safety in numbers. Get together and plan strategies.
