Taliban shooting victim Malala, 15, nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

The Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head three times after criticising extremists has been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize.

Malala Yousafzai, 15, was put forward by three Norwegian MPs, who praised her 'commitment so threatening to extremists that they tried to kill her'.

Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman at point blank range as she travelled home from school by bus on October 9. Her attacker boarded the vehicle in Pakistan's Swat Valley and asked for her by name before firing three shots at her in front of her horrified friends. She was singled out after writing a blog criticising the Islamist organisation.

The 15-year-old is now an internationally recognised symbol of opposition to the Taliban's drive to deny women education, and against religious extremism in a country where women's rights are often flouted.

Yousufzai has become an intentional symbol of resistance against the Taliban's attempts to suppress women's rights to an education by shooting teachers and killing students.

She has expressed gratitude and amazement that so many people globally have supported her struggle against the Taliban. She is currently recovering from her head shot injuries in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, the UK.

For once a well deserved recipient of the award. Hopefully it will inspire more women to stand up against their oppressors. Women of the world unite.

Well all I can say is she deserves it a hell of a lot more than Obama did. She's a good pick imo.

Some people from Pakistan have said that what Malala did was wrong.

Even her own countrymen are not supporting her.

It is absolutely vital that we show her support.
Nobel Prize will be a good show of support.

I would say evolved humans of any gender unite and stop this insanity of dualistic small mindedness giving all souls the right to choose their path. No priest/religion have any right to dictate what information or not should be given to another soul, limiting their evolution and ability to live happily and in the end find their way home.

Ha yeah I think she does , I think the Taliban need to be put in their place by 15 year old girls more often, her winning would send them a message.

She deserves it. Others in the past (Obama, Arafat) have not. I hope she receives it. The misogynistic men in her country who think it's okay to shoot a little girl because she wants to read should be highly embarrassed by their actions. They should be very sorry for what they have done and how they think.

You have got to be kidding me. This girl/woman does not deserve a noble peace prize. How many people do you think have been shot in the head, hung from a tree, tortured, because they tried to make a stand? How many do you think? Is she special? She is only special because she wasn't ugly when shot. Only if you actually change the world for the better should you get one. Not for being a somewhat attractive woman easily exploited to the masses. Not for being a smooth talking black man who becomes POTUS. Sorry, I think you should get the prize for actually accomplishing something.

Are you suggesting that someone other than the Taliban shot the girl in the head?

I watched a clip of an interview with her this morning, wow!
She held no hatred for the people who hurt her, but was determined to make her suffering count for something. She seemed to be a strong and gentle soul.

I love that she has been nominated, she is a much better role model for us to follow than most people that are shoved in our faces. I wish nothing but the brightest possible future for this young woman. She is in the position to save countless others.

I agree with those who are saying she deserves it more than Obama did. She was on the front lines. Obama was hiding behind military and secret service and police. She is actually working for peace. Obama is killing civilians with drones. She will inspire others to work for equality for women. Obama inspires people to accept government handouts.

It doesn't really make sense to me.. you issue the Nobel Peace prize to those who actually go on to promote measurable peace for whatever area or reason. It's not supposed to be issued to someone who is the victim of a terrible tragedy.

The only reaction I ever remember from this was a nation of rednecks "hating the Taliban" and basically wishing for a bloodier war because the news wanted them to feel that way. mmm -- Okay.

Then again, they issued it to Obama who is an imperialist warmonger among the best of them, so really what does it matter.
