Should people be eradicated? Or at the very least offered birth control programs, considering we are destroying the earth, our atmosphere and threatening every living thing on it, including ourselves?

I wonder why some people approach a problem in the most brutal and violent way without considering humane solutions?

I wonder about people who can treat any life like an inanimate object, like a plastic jug to be trashed.

What's that all about?

Solutions should be effective, and kind.
It goes with out saying they should be humane.

Any interruption of the food chain or removal of predator will lead to an abundance of the prey. I am thinking they kill more mice and rats than Cardinals and Bluejays and who likes Jays anyway? Are you ready for an influx of rats?

All pet owners have a responsiblity to control their pet's behavior. Dogs are on leashes for just that reason. Cats on the other hand when outside can not be controlled unless they are fenced in. So the answer is not eradicate but educate. Cats should be kept in and their enviroment should give them an opportunity to hunt and play.

I have had cats all of my life and they are wonderful pets. Ferrel cats are a totally different animal they have to hunt in order to survive you can not blame the species. We end up with ferrell cats because of irresponsible pet owners. You need to have your pets nuetered this in itself will help with the numbers of strays and abandoned kittens.

You can not always blame the animal. I work at a gated community in Florida. Someone at one time brought "Pom Pom" ducks to the property and for awhile they did fine. But one by one they were killed off from some sort of preditor. Here in Florida their are many predators to these ducks. First off they don't fly, there is no way for them to escape being hunted. I blame whoever brought these beautiful ducks to an area that offered no protection from the Florida panther, ferrell cats or any other threat to them. Had these ducks been properly housed they'd still be on the property.

IMO it all comes back to the pet owners responsiblity or lack of.

There are not many cats that are a big threat to anyone. When a cat wanders freely, they look for mice and cubby holes, and have conversations with crows up on the wires, who are always teasing them. They love it outside.

And control is a nazi thing. I'm more into acceptance, studying others, interacting peacefully and with kindness, observing.

Everyone and everything has rights.

I'm not talking about extreme behavior by the way, just to point that out.

I think to find the only decent solution,go to the heart of the matter. The local wildlife did'nt ask to born.NEITHER DID THE FERAL CATS.PEOPLE caused this,PEOPLE should now take responsibility. The cats originated as the offspring of domestic cats they didnt have fixed. There should be a public fund for this, that catlovers can contribute to monthly ESPECIALLY those that in the past has "caused cats" I did this once-but ive contributed at least 50 bucks a month for 9years to my local SPCA,sometimes more, and in donations of old clothes, ornaments, etc much more.It amounts to a few thousand, over the years.I did'nt cause generations of strays either, even.I took our unexpected litter to the SPCA,the ones i could'nt find nice people to adopt them. Say,on the South Island ( Friends of ours live on the SI,they mentioned this, idk if its both) people have a fund like this.I caused cats, because I did'nt get my cat to the vet early enough to be spayed. So,i paid for it,voluntarily, many times over, because its only right-and just because i love animals, and i still feel like crap that one or 2 cats may have had to be euthanised. Those feral cats did'nt ask to be born either.Folks should try and find good homes for a litter they failed to prevent.Or else at least take them to an Spca, even if there's a chance it may have to be euthanised, instead of later have 100 feral ones as a result. Spare a few bucks and support a fund like this-that can fund a sanctuary or two, where they can be spayed and housed,if you're a catlover. They have a right to life too. It may work, such a public fund?

Excuse me? Cats don't have conversations. Especially not with crows.....

They don't look for cubby holes,

they look for little, oblivious, wonderful creatures to torture and kill for their own amusement.

These animals are precious, each one playing their part in the natural ecosystem.

The Cat is a ruthless Lol-assassin, constantly seeking to sate his sick blood-lust.

Neophilic and constanly on the search for amusement with no regard for it's fellow Earth-residents.

No wonder they are so popular on social websites....

You are describing vermin, according to most cat owners it's ok for vermin to suffer an agonizing slow death or to be ripped to bits by a bigger animal.

I agree with you and one step farther. All animals should be neutered or spayed unless the person is a breeder or they apply for a special license to keep the animal that way. This will cut down on puppy mills and fight clubs.

I think to be humane to the tremendous number of euthanized domesticated animals and allow people the freedom to own pets at the same time - a compromise should be reached. All we hear about spay and Neutering is from Betty White and Bob Barker. I don't think it should be suggested. I think it should be the law.

According to snake or piranha owners, mice, kittens and rabbits are a food group.
Let's not pull the other "people are humane" card. It's laughable and such a sad damn lie.

First, do no harm.

It would take a person with an avatar of a dog to suggest this eradication of cats

I've never understood why dog lovers tend to be so narrow minded about cats, while cat lovers tend to also love dogs.

Who are the global elite? Do you mean anyone who is rich?

I don't think they all play on the same team.

Why does Gareth Morgan think he's the cat's pyjamas?

He's been called a lunatic, a "media whore", a "boring, self-centred plonker" and worse (much worse), but last week New Zealand's renegade millionaire economist, Gareth Morgan, earned himself a whole new constituency of enemies from around the planet when he suggested cat-owners should think about getting rid of their pets.

"I've had a s...load of hate mail," Morgan told the Star-Times on the phone from China, where he was attending a wedding. "A lot of it out of America, actually. Now I understand why those people shoot each other so much. God, they're mad."

www.stuff.co.nz...

As ugly on the outside as he is on the inside. Picture at above link.

in some respects theres good and bad from them. the bad is that they kill small animals but the good is that they will kill rats that have been introduced and also do alot of damage to wildlife by raiding bird and reptile nests and spreading diseases. so getting rid of cats would have mixed results

Another exercise in human ignorance and arrogance...we are our own worst enemies it seems....

Humans: Hey lets domesticate and breed these cats as pets as well as keep the mice/rodent population down!!!

Humans: Hey we domesticated way too many cats their killing way too many birds lets kill these cats so they don't kill the birds...wonder how we got so many cats in the first place..?!? hmm....

Humans: Hey we killed too many cats we have too many mice/rodents now lets just kill everything...

Aliens: Silly humans will solve all their "problems" if they just killed themselves first...

I dont like dogs either, but I am not that selfish that I want all dogs slaughtered because of that.
So I guess you rather have rats and mice populations skyrocketing?? It is a fact that cats keep the population of such pests lower.

That's the problem with our way of thinking, we think the answer is just to get rid of our problems by killing, rather than thinking of intelligent solutions.

I'm not a complete pacifist, I would kill to protect my family if I absolutely had to, or was in a rush to defend them and did by accident - but people are WAY too quick to come to violent solutions. 98% of the time, a peaceful solution is not only possible but actually preferable and more effective.
