ex·ploi·ta·tion

to take advantage of (a person, situation, etc), esp unethically or unjustly for one's own ends.

I don't care how much the pro-gun lobby try to twist and turn this.....the FACT is, had the assailant had a firearm, those people would likely be dead.

Yes knives kill, yes an attacker is going to use whatever he can to attack, but if that item is a gun, more chance lives are going to be lost.

You can be pro gun and admit that too you know, it is a fact after all.

Man, you sure seem agitated.
Did you read the OP?

Even the title says

7 people stabbed in random attack in Vancouver

Please tell me you don't have access to a knife.

I can not tell you how many of these knife attack stories I have come across lately.
SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!!!

Isn't there anything we can do to make sure that crazy people can't get access to a knife?

That's funny, I'm from Vancouver and the concern for the moment isn't knives,
it's gun wielding 'gangsters' who execute each other weekly.

Couple of days ago though, someone got killed with a sword.

We are a completely different culture here in Vancouver,
no one has guns except for criminals and cops.
People like me are forced to rely on other means for defence like martial arts and home weapons.

We live a victim mentality in waiting...
That is we are all just aimlessly walking around waiting to be brutalized then expected to just carry on as if nothing happened when it does.

Swords used to be the Asian gangs weapon of choice in Auckland too.

If knives were illegal to own then this couldn't have happened.
You can be pro knife and still admit this.
It's ok.

We are talking about knives remember.
Stay on topic please.

They are illegal to carry here.

I am on topic, I also have no doubt that you created this thread to highlight that other weapons can be used to hurt people.

This is true.

But you cannot take away the fact of what would have happened had the assailant had firearms.

For the record, you brought guns into this first....

On a side note,
I am sure every single one of those people without exception are glad they didn't have a gun on them at the time.
I know that our fellow gun grabbers would have felt the same way too. They would have just ended up accidentally shooting abd killing every other random citizen within a 5 mile radius EXCEPT for the knife wielding maniac.

Right?

The title is about knives but what you wrote was sarcastic rubbish taking advantage of a grim situation. And you did mention gun-grabbers in your opening post - so really you did bring up the topic of guns.

Apparently this guy didn't get the memo.
He's in trouble.
Why do you suppose he was able to get ahold of a knife and carry it if it is illegal?
Don't you guys have cops?

I thought your criminals up there in Canada respected the law when they go on killing sprees.

what gives?

It's a point very well made and your right. If knives were banned we wouldn't have knife woundings or stabbings.

But wait I've just realised something knives are quite useful. In fact we all use them literally on an everyday basis. For instance, how would a surgeon ply his trade, with a shovel, a handgun? On further reflection perhaps we shouldn't rush into banning knives. Unless I missed something?

We could ban citizens from carrying and owning swords though if you like.

I read your posts in this thread. Yes, I see you have an agenda. Yes, I understand what you and your countrymen are struggling with in the US between your 2nd amendment and your right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

Please note this happened in Canada, not in the US. Find a stabbing incident in the US you can use to try to make your point. The context is completely wrong in this one.

Wow... sounds like its not working for them just to be illegal to carry.

I think we need a national knife registry with universal background checks, and a police database of everyone who buys anything that could potentially sharpen the knife into a military style armament of war, such as a sharpening stone, a piece of glass, or a brick.

FOR THE CHILDREN, DAMN IT!

What question?

If you mean about making knives illegal, I don't know about your country, or the country where this happened, but in the UK it is illegal to carry a knife over a certain length on the street. There is also laws against certain types of knives like flick and lock knives.

Sure it doesn't stop the criminals, but knives in general are used for cooking, you can't really do away with one of lifes essential tools, knives have been around in some fashion since the dawn of man.

The good thing about a knife compared to a firearm though is that it takes the assailant longer to hit multiple targets, and there is a significant reduction in the fatality count.

It must be done for the children!!!
If knives were illegal to own for EVERYONE excpet surgeons and butchers then ths sort of thing couldn't EVER happen again.

This is NORTH AMERICA DAMNIT!!!!
I want my kids to be safe from knife wielding maniacs don't YOU!?!?!

I guess some people just support the stabbing of babies.

So unless you are a gangster you shouldn't have anything to worry about right? You don't need a gun, a sword or even martial arts to protect yourself from a maniac with a knife. If you're paranoid just get some OC.
