I am postering the notion of the evil(s) of money. Is it really evil? We've all heard the statement that money is not evil but it's man's uses and intentions for it. However, what if money really is evil? I mean what if money is actually a concept that's born of the devil, and everytime we spend money or use money for our benefit we are actually using the devil to interact in daily life. Devil backwards = lived and we use money in our daily lives to thrive. Just think of all the evil we have to do in order to get more of it; backstabbing, lying, cheating, forgery, etc.. Basically we have to break all of the deadly sins in order to get it and the more we break those sins the more we seemingly get.

I know this probably isn't the case but I'm just wondering. Where else can I pose this type of question but here on ATS?

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. -(1Tim 6:10) Money has no power...but the things people will do for it, certainly does.

It is not money that is evil, it is the love of money that is.

Pursuing monetary gain at the cost of all else is evil.

To simplify it down to the very core of it, GREED is evil.

Money is just the current object of obsession, 10000 years ago it was probably sheep, salt or something similar.

Well...money is used to further Space Exploration...so can't be all bad. Guess this was the best answer I could come up with, for this forum.

Ok...I can understand wanting to talk about money and if it is evil or not..but why did you create this thread in the (space exploration) forum?

Well speak for yourself, I dont cheat or backstab or any of the mentioned to get money. But I sincerely believe money is evil, I mean if we started fairly we would all have everything right? Well no! We need motivation for doing what we do. The problems come with the ruthless elite who really push people around for a bigger peice of the pie.

Nope just humans. It's the hands the money passes through.
The weak ones who feel money is the end all be all of existence.

I'm inclined to agree with on of the above posters that the need some people have for monetary gain is the true evil. The length that some people go to acquire money is beyond belief. Can a society work without currency? Well, that's a thread in itself. I am curious though, why was this posted in space exploration, a mistake?

OOps!

My mistake. Money has nothing to do with Space Exploration, yet. However, with private enterprise about to take root in Space it will be all about the money there too.

Anything that can set differences between us are evil:
Money, Races, Religions, Human-Animals (we forgot that we are animals too and we think animals are lower than us and deserved to be hunt as games, etc), Skin Colors, Genders, etc

I see that a (mod) moved it to (general c's)...live and learn.

I really don't think money is evil just some of the people that have it and what they use it for.

Really...if there was no money...and people just lived and shared...wouldn't that be wonderful! Ya...I know...I'll just dream about that once in a while.

That reminds me of another point which belongs to another thread but I'll say it here, and that is that everything leads to evil in the end it seems to me. Whether the initial intention is good or bad. Why is that? As another poster said other animals aren't below us yet we kill them and eat them. If we don't eat them a lot of people would starve; is the point about choosing the lesser evil?. Socialism, Communism, the Protestant Reformation en.wikipedia.org... the use of fossil fuels, Monsanto and its use of GMO's, and on all started out with good intentions for the time they were in but all ended poorly for Humanity except maybe the Protestant Reformation. My point is that it seems no matter what you do in this world it eventually leads to evil in the end. Why is that?

This is what I learnt (and 100% agree) from others in ATS: Ego.

I think it can.

But you have to remove the greed for it to work.

Money is not any more evil than a rock. Nor money is a problem the motives or goals is what f's everything up for the regular consumer.

For example healthcare: Corporations make more money by giving you medicine that is required to be taken consistently for the rest of your live versus coming up with a cure.

If a pharmaceutical corporations got paid to keep you healthy then the general public would most likely be healthy since that would be their goal in order to get paid. Versus the current model where they get paid when you are unhealthy.

It all about the motive. Both ways they pharmaceutical corporation gets money its how they get paid that effects society.

While I think money can cause a lot of evil, I don't think everything that is bought with it is evil. For instance, the two prostitutes I bought last night were kinky, yes, but certainly not evil.
