Well it seems the only requirement here on ATS for one to be a socialist is for one to be for worker ownership of the means of production....

So Obama being a union stooge (SEIU)... then ya... he's a socialist.

Yep don't hear any capitalists saying spread the wealth, and fair share and all that other garbage.

If someone wants a bunch of money and expects government to give it to them without doing anything for it thats a socialist my definition for the 21st century.

After all the goal is to create mediocrity instead exceptionailism and exceptionalism only happens when the people themselves rise to the occasion not hide behind government and give them things they can't do on their own.

Where today in Judea-Christian culture can one be taught about the Stock Market in the American equivalent to High School?? A point being if you want to observe socialism in America all you need is a 20 million a year income, or somehow be involved in the military/industrial complex. And if your really wealthy you can sell a product that only kills 27 and despite the fact you were aware that would happen, retire in style.

Yes as clearly evidenced by his outrage at the passage of Right to Work in some States. Oh wait, he was completely silent about that wasn't he? Hmm maybe his determination that his DoJ would prosecute the financial terrorists that destroyed the economy and stripped jobs from this country? There was none? Damn.

To be frank, this economic climate was the absolute perfect time for any Socialists in power to come forward and be very vocal about the destruction being wreaked on our economy by Capitalism. The only rhetoric we have heard has been that we need to raise taxes on the rich, which despite what people want to scream and cry about is neither wealth redistribution nor Socialism. It is a very skinny band-aid applied to a gaping, sucking wound.

I am a Socialist, this is what I would be trying to accomplish if I were President.

Cancel the debt, all of it, personal and national.
Destruction of the tax code, replaced with something simple and in common language, no legalese.
Destruction of every law on the books, resumption of the Constitution with new legal interpretations of each amendment and freedom from exploitation added where appropriate, with a simple penal system in common language, no legalese.
Workers rights, ie workers own the value of what they produce.
Farmers rights.
Civil rights.
Environmental rights.
Personal private property only. Factories, retail chains etc... must be formed/operated on public land, subject to approval and revocation of the communities in which they exist.

I know I'll get flamed for all of that but I wanted to illustrate what a Socialist president would look like and yes I know such a person would have a snow balls chance in hell in the US.

You do realize that DailyKos is a group of bloggers, right? Though they tend to be quite accurate, they're under no obligation to keep personal bias out of articles... and btw I've seen plenty of disparaging blogs about Obama. Here's one that will really get ya... Bill Moyers (NPR, PBS) blogs on DailyKos, dissing Obama. No way!? SERIOUSLY!

Reagan was more of a socialist than Obama.

That's because he is being stopped from accomplishing a telling blow ,either by bureaucrats or common sense. But he is adhering to his professors philosophies.Over whelm the system with welfare and take over. He doesn't have the time any more.

Marxism halted in the craw of the State, where did I say anything about the State? You seemed to have missed that the point of my post wasn't about me proposing solutions, it was about outlining what a Socialist President might actually look like.

The stats quoted from Daily Kos in the OP were misleading and inaccurate. Personal bias .. be it from Daily Kos or MSNBC or FOX or whatever, tends to make misleading and lopsided articles which, in the end, are inaccurate.
