A man who illegally kept a revolver he inherited from his grandfather has been given 150hrs community service.

Richard Sandison, 51, was a schoolboy when he was given the Belgian revolver. It belonged to his grandfather who had served with distinction in World War One.

He used it to play cowboys and indians as a boy and kept it as a memento but it was confiscated by police after they visited his home for another matter.

He escaped a mandatory 5 year sentence by the skin of his teeth because of the circumstances one how he came by the gun,

Its a different country and different laws than the USA, over there it'd be classed as crappy weapon best sold to a collector or stuffed in a museum where as here owning an unregistered firearm is normally a mandatory 5 year stretch

But the fact that he thought it was deactivated with no ammo for it and had a clean sheet would of helped his case so the judge probably gave the minimum sentence available

In the US the antique gun laws cover weapons made before 1899 or so, and certain other weapons, such as those not produced anymore, and certain muzzle loading and black powder weapons. Those weapons fall under a different category than a modern firearm does.

Well, 150 hrs community service is barely a sentence, and actually good for building character.

I actually hope he gets the gun back.

This is what i was aiming at...^^^^^^^^
It's so hard to give up the habit of a lifetime, too easy to say..."i'll just keep one", waaay too easy for someone to open their mouth....one false move on your part after you have been disarmed and it's breaking rock on the chain gang time..

No you dont get it......

pistolas are banned in the UK, as for Shotguns you need to either be a land owner or have permission to shoot on someones land.
we are not even allow bows or spear guns unless we have a damned good excuse....we are defenseless here...They will even take your Ball bat if you dont have a ball....

seems like its reasonable to me in a modern society, why do you lot actually need guns anyway?
most of the civilised world gets by fine without them and has a tiny fraction of the murders per population rate that you guys have over there.

Assuming you have no reason to be denied a shotgun license then you have to be granted one and technically theres no way they could ban bow and arrows as technically its a mandatory legal requirement for bow training once a week.
