Now that that's out of the way: do I agree that you've got some good points? Definitely. The US system is imploding in slow motion. Your beloved
concepts of liberty are being reduced more and more (hell, I feel more free in Canada than I ever would in the US), the divide between the rich and
the poor is growing, and society isn't adapting at anywhere near a fast enough pace. The bare fact of the matter is that the economic model that the
American politicians are trying to push is completely unsustainable today. In the '50s, a manufacturing-based economy worked fine, because we didn't
have the technology to render human labour obsolete. But we're coming to the point now where we can and will.
So what do you do when the jobs literally run out? My personal feeling is this: mankind is about to undergo a radical change in society. The whole
idea of having to work to survive is going away fast. We're entering what amounts to a post-scarcity society in which you simply can't justify not
providing at least the bare essentials of life to everyone. But as long as the "elite," the buisness moguls control the system, they won't let that
Basically what I'm trying to say is that we as a species have been staving off the effects of technological advancement for a very long time, and
it's going to come to a head very soon.
