I've heard of some circumstances where they do attack...maybe a cautionary tap to keep it away from itself or its young. Or maybe he just wanted to play?

Or something.
The humpbacks winter in Hawaii for breeding as well as calving.

The Whale was just living large as that is what they do, after all it is their Ocean and their property.

Lucky guy the Kayaker was.

Are you "shocked?" Sorry, couldn't help it, via your avatar mood.....
Have the highest respect, just couldn't resist.

Say, was there by any chance, a maroon bowsprit depth sounder of that whole thing????

And say, though I seldom see you on political subjects, do you think that whale might have been protesting against gun control???
Forgive me, really....just a joke.....

Apparently it was the whale which did the approaching. The critter was probably just fooling around.
Maybe just a case of humpback hacky sack.
