I dont know much about Syrias air defences. So your saying if Israel flys low into Syria, there is no way they can defend themselves.

That's what the article suggests the Syrian military have admitted. The IDF flew under the radar.

My my my...

Israel certainly is doing everything they possibly can to start a war with someone, anyone, come hell or high water, aren't they ?

Do they not realize that eventually they'll get their wish plus far more than they bargained for ?

How do we know that Assad didnt ask Israel to destroy it because it was about to be taken over by the rebels and they didnt have the capability to do it themselves ???. Israel was provoked because we all know what will happen if these weapons get into the rebels hands don't we !!. I say good work Israel, but try and nail a few hundred rebels at the same time in the next round. I'm sure Assad would green light any strike that took out these Neanderthals (rebels)

Because that makes no sense, thats why. Think about it. Mossad are operating in parts of Syria to topple the regime, do you think Assad would be asking assistance from Israel?

Israel a part of the problem. They helped create the mess and you say good on them? Cmon man, they aren't in the business of killing western backed rebels who have threatened Jerusalem, yet anyway.

What would make you suggest that? Seems to me Israel has had an itchy trigger finger. I am curious if the US is going to back them when the time comes?

Its actually air defense old tactics, they intentionally “turn off” the radar to prevent (signature reading) by the enemy.

This tactic is mostly important since they don’t have a real” face to face war”, loos a few but save the big bang for the real one, what those Zionist bastard did was an act of provocations it wasn’t the first time (couple of years ago they did the same under the name of attacking nuclear site) but I truly hope that it will their last breathe of existence.

Iran said a couple of days ago (any act of aggression against the Syria is act of war against the Iran).Interesting to see where it will end.

Yep, Iran should make a statement how Dimora is posing an immediate threat to the existence of the Iranian people, Syria and Israel should expect airstrikes at any time. I wonder how the world would react to something like that?

There was an attack by the IDF in Syria a few years ago where they weren't detected until the bombs were going off. It was reported that they were able to create basically a hole in the radar coverage, using electronic warfare equipment on the strike package aircraft, and using some of their support aircraft operating off the coast. This allowed them to operate in Syrian airspace with impunity.

Not long ago, we saw claims of a Syrian Artillery round striking Israeli territory, at which point Israel responded swiftly and with greater force, destroying any armored units and mortar crews in the area along the border. This was the first test of the world stage by Israeli forces. In some instances we can consider the actions of Israel just, because a round did land in the borderlands, but as far as I know, no serious damage happened and the round was accidental not intentional.

All of that aside, it was the first test as far as the world goes, on Israeli action with in Syrian borders.

This is an article outlining mostly the Gazan conflict, with the single stray shell mentioned briefly. It was lumped in with much of the conflict going on in Gaza, so many of you may have overlooked or, simply disregarded it all together.

Israeli Response to stray shell.

I can not say for a fact the Syrian Shell was intended to hit Israel, but due to fighting along the border I can understand the possibility of an overworked, crew making a mistake. It was after all a single shell and not a barrage. I will not argue for Syria, or for Israel in this instance, but the world accepted their actions and I feel it was one of many stepping stones to a potential Israeli/western intervention in Syria.

These Airstrikes carried out in Syria, are likely to go with out response from Syrian forces. They can not afford to provoke Israel into what would be Justified action against them by retaliating while fighting their civil war. How ever, the rebels now stand in a position to provoke Israel giving them just cause to launch at the very least an aerial campaign over the Syrian nation. There is plenty of fighting through out Syria, with different factions of rebels, militia, and military. An organized response is unlikely, and until an outsider like Russia finds just cause of the actions we may see an increase in Russian Navy in the area. The Russians have an interest with Syria, and are quasi allies with Syria. I suppose, ally might be a stretch but they do sympathize and support Syria in it's current conflict. Having said that if another western nation tries to get involved, Russia would as well.

This could be Boisterous chest beating by Russia, but I am more than interested to see what their response will be to Israeli Airstrikes over Sovereign Syrian territory. If Israel, tries to relate the earlier border mishap as justification for the strikes, I would not be surprised.

I will be watching this with careful eyes.

Something strange is flying over Damascus today...

Reported to be taken in Douma, a suburb of Damascus, Syria.

Seems the Iranians have two choices - put up or shut up.

There is a story about the strike on the convoy and the Syrian military claiming the attack near Damascus on CNN.

Often times, the MSM will wait for confirmation from multiple sources and/or the respective governments/militaries involved.

This can sometimes take days, or even weeks.

In the meantime, sties like ATS often have the jump on the news (as when reports of Russian ss-20 missiles in the Georgian conflict where later confirmed). Just be sure to take it with a grain of salt, until it is either confirmed or debunked.

Lovely contrails from circling aircraft at sunrise/sunset. I hear a call to prayer in the background too, it's either Syrian or Israeli Jets doing patrol.

Three military aircraft patrolling the area. No telling who they belong to from that video. It is unusual to see them high enough to leave contrails though. That's like putting up a huge neon sign saying "shoot here" for anyone with weapons to do it. Just based on that, I'd say Syrian aircraft if that's in a Syrian city.

Hey Zaphod, you're a little more well versed in military aircraft than I, do you happen to know if Syria possesses any Aerial based Radar craft? Could this be just that, with fighter escort? I heard it said in one of the articles Israel, "flew under the radar" so to speak, could this perhaps be their attempt at a counter measure for any other strikes they may fear?

I agree it does seem rather odd, to place combat aircraft at such an altitude unless they are serving a specific purpose. This literally just popped in my head, and I would assume they are Syrian, unless Israel is so bold to risk attack from MANPAD from rebel or syrian forces, or ground based air defense.
