Damn, I mentioned this in another thread. It could have been my first thread!

Anyhow, here is a local news article that has a link to the letter written to the police department from the shooting range, as well as the response from the police department.

The chairman of the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club explained in a letter that it cannot support the city with such a prejudice against the club, and has voted to suspend the city's use of the range for law enforcement officers.

Burlington Police Looking For New Gun Range

I grew up close to Burlington (within walking distance), and I can't think of a single instance where an 'assault rifle' was used to perpetrate a crime. Murders are so rare in Vermont that a homicide in any corner of the state is news in all parts of the state. There is a coalition of mayors who have gotten together to discuss solving a problem that doesn't exist. I'm sad to say the mayor of my hometown is one of them. The Burlington City Council's decision has to be approved by the state legislature before it can be made into law, and I'm fairly optimistic that it would receive a large amount of opposition.

You – “Mr. Politician, please protect me from myself and my neighbors.”

Politician – “Gladly, serf. Turn over your guns to us and we’ll protect you.”

You – “Yes sir. Is there anything else I can do for you, your honor?”

Politician - "Yes, open your business to me and my friends and give us anything we want for free."

You - "Gladly, your honor! Anything for you, oh great one."

You forgot the logical conclusion:

You - "Where was my police protection when my business was getting broken into and ransacked? Where were they when my house was being broken into and my wife raped?"

Politician - "Oh. Sorry 'bout that. They were on another call. The SCOTUS has ruled that we have no obligation to defend you, despite what we promise. So sorry. Have you got any free ties here to match my vest?"
