What Search Engine Do You Use?

I've read about claims of yahoo and google being in bed with the US government for using these search engines as spy tools. That being said, I REALLY do want to know which search engine my ATS family uses, or do you feel safe using the go to google or yahoo?

Whichever one refuses to turn over their logs if presented with a subpoena.

So, none of them.

Besides, what do you have to hide?

Try DuckDuckGo. They have a no tracking policy. I use them often, though for deep or really wide searches you'll have to find other options.

I use Startpage. Before I found Startpage I used Dogpile.

ISP's are always the weak link - as they fall under the provenance of cyber laws and have to turn over records - and they do record everything. Every single IP connected to, every single file name and size accessed, etc.

But addressing the obvious search engine data mining that goes on with Google, Yahoo, and Bing? Duckduckgo is an easy to use, fairly mainstream option. There are other search engines that fly under the radar but they tend to be highly specialized in nature.

Even if they didn't it's no secret that Google data mines more extensively than any other site on the net - with the possible exception of FB and Twitter, which go about it in different ways. Google spiders find their way into everything and if you use a script blocking add on you'll quickly discover that "google analytics" tries to load on about 99% of pages you visit. Also, since their browser and O/S use synching and the cloud... that stuff is also in their domain and logs. Passwords, bookmarks, log-ins, all of it.

sure, it's google powered, but with 'no script' blocking on it's really straightforward.

I have found Startpage/Ixquick are ok but they don't give as many results as google and so often I don't find what I am looking for and then have to use google. I guess if they really want to watch me/ profile me and track what I look at on the net then they are going to do it regardless of which search engine or browser I use.
