Ah yes, the rantings of people who have no idea how emergency response works. Anything to blame Obama.
Stop being so ignorant people.
FEMA is just a support agency. They don't run the show, they only do what the state asks them too.
Now. lets see how New Jersey does in emergency preparedness...
They get a 4...
Oh.
Yea that pretty much explains it.
Silly ATSers, always yelling that the federal government has too much power but they give the feds powers they don't have. How emergency response is
handled is strictly up to the state and local authorities.
States losing ground in emergency
preparedness
Now to the crux of the matter:
Thirty-five states and Washington, D.C., scored six or lower in the 10th annual report by the Trust for America's Health, with the Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation. The measures come from publicly available sources including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Climate
Control and Energy Solutions and Save the Children.
The main cause for the gaps among states, the authors say, are deep budget cuts: 29 states cut public health budgets from 2010 to 2012. Twenty-three
states cut their budgets for the second year in a row. But 21 states and D.C. increased or maintained funding levels.[zex]
But OH! LOOK!
As part of their bill to void the military spending cuts included in the Budget Control Act — which was passed as a result of 2011′s GOP
inspired debt ceiling standoff — House Republicans proposed eliminating a program that helps states and localities respond to disasters like
hurricanes
House GOP voted to cute EMERGENCY SPENDING
Rep. Scott Garret of NJ calles disaster relief "wasteful spending".
