Ah yes, the rantings of people who have no idea how emergency response works. Anything to blame Obama.

Stop being so ignorant people.

FEMA is just a support agency. They don't run the show, they only do what the state asks them too.

Now. lets see how New Jersey does in emergency preparedness...

They get a 4...

Oh.

Yea that pretty much explains it.

Silly ATSers, always yelling that the federal government has too much power but they give the feds powers they don't have. How emergency response is handled is strictly up to the state and local authorities.

States losing ground in emergency preparedness

Now to the crux of the matter:

Thirty-five states and Washington, D.C., scored six or lower in the 10th annual report by the Trust for America's Health, with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The measures come from publicly available sources including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Climate Control and Energy Solutions and Save the Children.

The main cause for the gaps among states, the authors say, are deep budget cuts: 29 states cut public health budgets from 2010 to 2012. Twenty-three states cut their budgets for the second year in a row. But 21 states and D.C. increased or maintained funding levels.[zex]

But OH! LOOK!

As part of their bill to void the military spending cuts included in the Budget Control Act — which was passed as a result of 2011′s GOP inspired debt ceiling standoff — House Republicans proposed eliminating a program that helps states and localities respond to disasters like hurricanes

House GOP voted to cute EMERGENCY SPENDING

Rep. Scott Garret of NJ calles disaster relief "wasteful spending".

GOP Concerns Stall Sandy Aid

Deny ignorance.

What's up with the members in this thread trying to blame this on Obama? What rocks have you all been living under? It's the House Republicans (as usual) who have held up the relief efforts.

Angry Christie slams Boehner for abandoning Sandy victims

TRENTON – Citing “selfishness” and “duplicity,” an angry and frustrated Gov. Christie blamed a fellow Republican, House Speaker John Boehner, for withholding $60 billion in aid for Sandy victims.

Chris Christie Slams House Republicans Over Sandy Relief Failure

Gov. Chris Christie ripped into House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) today for delaying a vote on billions in federal aid for recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

“There’s only one group to blame for the continued suffering of these innocent victims: The House majority and their speaker, John Boehner,” said Christie at a press conference this afternoon.

Republicans Continue To Delay Sandy Aid

The Senate is prepared to take up the president’s request for $60.4 billion in emergency aid for the states hit by Superstorm Sandy. But Republicans in the Senate are questioning the amount requested, and House Republicans have signaled they’re prepared to let the matter slide into next year.

Yeah, that's right, Republicans will just "let the matter slide into next year..." - maybe with any luck when all the Sandy victims are dead...

The Bill was stuck in the Senate (Dem controlled) because it was doubled with pork. Loading the bill with pork to fund unrelated pet projects by Democrats is what was holding it up. The media could help these people by getting the news out to America that they need help. Playing politics with peoples lives costs lives. Liberals scream about how much they care and show how much they don't by their deeds.

You are ok. This is a crazy situation, and the weather has only made the humanity of it more intense for anyone with half a brain, consciousness or heart.
