Posting links for people interested in Neanderthal topic:

Byrd's Research Links: Neanderthals
Geneticist misquoted on Neanderthals

Neanderthal Genome Sequencing Consortium professor answers questions about Neanderthals and genetics

Some of the differences between humans and Neanderthals

Scientists (bioethecists) discuss issues involved in cloning any form of human

It's actually very difficult to get permission to do research on humans, particularly if you're with a university.
This is an example of what I went through to do research (ask questions about what people thought of a set of museum exhibits) on behalf of a museum

There is no universally accepted definition of what a human is -- and in the past, people have been declared nonhuman (subhuman) because of race, culture, country of origin, gender, sexual preference, physical anomalies (albinos and dwarfs, for instance), wealth, and a host of other trivial differences that are not genetically based.

Why I'm skeptical about the "Cave of Petroglyphs"
I've studied them for years. "Bas relief" carvings (where the stone is carved/pecked away from the image) is not a technique used in the oldest style of rock art (It's hard enough to peck a line into a rock, but pounding away large sections of it to produce an elevated figure would take a very long time.) There is a mix of styles which appear to be copied from other authentic petroglyphs. There are deep sharp edges (and if you got close enough, you could probably see metal chisel marks rather than pecking marks from stones.)

Some of them appear to be Incan motifs and are eroded badly enough that they look reasonably authentic for that time and style. This MAY be an older site defaced in modern times.

Yola (culture) petroglyphs

NOTE ON THE FOLLOWING SITES: They apparently "chalk" the petroglyphs so they will photograph better (this makes rock art preservationists grit their teeth in annoyance. It's not good for the site and can destroy traces of older pigments (if they were painted)
Authentic ones -- Spanish language site

Amazonian petroglyphs

chalked petroglyph (note the "pecking" texture of the line)

Ancient petroglyph site in Ecuador has been vandalized

Ya, apparently we all need to open our minds and not worry so much about eyewitness testimony and years of scholarly data.
