Kdog... In skimming the thread,(skimming because I have seen most all of the mentioned movies) I noticed one that sticks out in my memory but
was missing from the list of replies.
"Zardoz". From 74 and staring none other than Sean Connery, "Zardoz" is the cautionary tale of the children of the elite, who bugged out centuries
before and now live and evolve in isolated opulence while the common rabble starve and fight and generally do the post apocalyptic Mad Max thing but
without any technology.
The elite live behind an energy bubble high in the mountains and manipulate the "common people" with superstitious religion. The story line has
Connery sneaking into the elite enclave and undermining the "balance of power" within the elite hierarchy.
Getting past the predictably cornball sequences, one is presented with numerous concepts of what might happen when those who believe they are superior
are allowed to control the world from their own ivory towers.
And as an added bonus, rare in 74, there is a splashing of topless female nudity and a whole lot of hunky, hairy Connery, testosteroning his way
amoung the women of the elite.
