metal storm enters aggrement with Lockheed martin for torpedo defense project

Metal Storm announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Lockheed Martin to conduct studies and technical demonstrations in order to establsh the feasibility of the Metal Storm Torpedo Defence System over a four month evaluation period. Term of the agreement were not disclosed. The lockheed martin approach to defeating torpedoes for both surface and subsurface combatants , coupled with Metal Storms launch capability, offers an exciting opportunity to demonstrate the feasibilityof our combined technologies for the benfit of naval personnel worldwide.

the sstd ( surface ship torpedo defense) system is a defensive system under development to counter specific undersea weapons threats to high value surface ships. The system consists of detection, control, and counter weapons subsystems. The counter weapon portion is comprised of a hardkill subsystem for outer layer engagment and a seduction subsystem for inner layer defense. SSTD is the first undersea warfare program to use a layered-attrition approach for the defense of surface ships.
