We see the negative effects of gun ownership pumped out by the media daily. The fact is that guns save lives daily, hourly. It is impossible to count the number of lives saved by a gun, however we know they do. A little research and you come up with broad estimates that can not be verified. The estimates i have seen range from 80,000- 400,000 a year. One can assume based on those estimates that a gun ban that takes them away from law abiding citizens and not criminals would result in an equal and likely higher number of deaths each year. If we factor in that criminals will know that their potential victim will not have a gun it could escalate exponentially. These figures are not generally taken into account in the Second Amendment debate. They should in fact be a part of the debate.

Zero.

Zero lives are saved by "defensive" gun use.

Countless lives are saved by never brandishing a gun in the first place.

Wow. Voluntary ignorance AND a gun grabber agenda. I didn't realize they were synonymous.

Here's a few stats to back this up.

Defensive Gun Use Statistics

According to the National Self Defense Survey conducted by Florida State University criminologists in 1994, the rate of Defensive Gun Uses can be projected nationwide to approximately 2.5 million per year -- one Defensive Gun Use every 13 seconds.
Among 15.7% of gun defenders interviewed nationwide during The National Self Defense Survey, the defender believed that someone "almost certainly" would have died had the gun not been used for protection -- a life saved by a privately held gun about once every 1.3 minutes. (In another 14.2% cases, the defender believed someone "probably" would have died if the gun hadn't been used in defense.)

In 83.5% of these successful gun defenses, the attacker either threatened or used force first -- disproving the myth that having a gun available for defense wouldn't make any difference.

In 91.7% of these incidents the defensive use of a gun did not wound or kill the criminal attacker (and the gun defense wouldn't be called "newsworthy" by newspaper or TV news editors). In 64.2% of these gun-defense cases, the police learned of the defense, which means that the media could also find out and report on them if they chose to.

Gun defense clock

The numbers are kinda old but are still relevant as ever.

So we have heard from the childish and ignorant side of the debate. A gun saving a life does not mean blood had to be spilled. Simply the opening of a jacket to expose a handgun to a criminal can save a life.

Who wants too bet that some of the gun death numbers are criminals shot in the act?
