Officials in India-administered Kashmir have published an advisory in a local newspaper warning residents to be prepared for a possible nuclear war by building bomb shelters and other precautions, barely two weeks after deadly border skirmishes.

In an unprecedented move, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force published the advisory on Monday in English language Greater Kashmir daily.

even if Pakistan has a bit of sense, who controls the bands of fighters in the mountains?!
wars have a nasty way of getting out of hand, from just a local skirmish!

I once read that they thought that a regional nuclear war would only make for a "nuclear fall".
NO!
the tiny particles are so so small that the very sunlight heats them up so that they remain aloft for years and years.

I believe India and Pakistan have been blustering and bluffing each other across the 'Line Of Control' since they both established neither could pee further than the other by nuclear testing.

I love that 'Build a bomb shelter' line though. Yeah... right... and that's going to do . . . What? Die in a hole slowly instead of going in a nano second above ground? I'll take the instant in a bright flash, personally. The problem is...it's a really really small place they're fighting over.

I take something like this to be more like 'Hey World! We're still here and you aren't paying enough attention to us!'

If this indeed does happen then that would mean my prediction/dream has come true. I made a thread on it not too long ago. Regardless, I seriously hope nothing happens.

I think history testifies that no one will win if a nuclear bomb is dropped, let alone a nuclear war.
Think Hiroshima and Nagasaki, how many innocents died? Yes it pretty much stopped WW2, and it will be said it
saved many future lives by stopping the war but the human loss of life was too great and the scarring on the souls of those implicit in the act will play heavily on those people for many lives to come.
When its all said and done war is futile and Nuclear war is many times more futile, Are India and Pakistan ready to repeat the mistakes of the past, according to radioactive levels in some regions of Pakistan and the Mahabarata
this may well have happened in the ancient past.

Actually, it is (I believe) generally accepted today that the Japanese were ready to surrender prior to the bombs....and were holding out for bargaining position. They wanted assurances that the Emperor would be left as head of state, and this was (apparently) communicated to Truman months prior to the bombs.

Ergo, no lives 'saved' and a whole bunch forfeit...had 'lifesaving' been the real issue, Truman should have agreed to let the Japanese keep the Emperor, which they did anyway...

After fighting the Imperial Japanese war machine from Midway to the South Pacific out to Burma and back, I guess Truman wasn't in the mood for conditions and but's out of the Emperor or his command. I don't blame him one bit given time and circumstance of another place and era we can barely fathom for the issues involved and the way the world existed at that time.

Seen through today's view? Sure...but hindsight and the wisdom of knowing the accurate history from all sides by it makes for perfect judgement no one can possibly possess at the time these things are occurring, IMO. (not sure where this tied into India and Pakistan with their little contest of who's bigger and badder over Kashmir)

You give the elite too much credit.

Look at the suffering they have caused all around the world for profit and power. Corrupt leaders the world over have no regard for the lives of others in their own nations, let alone those in others around them. They continue to do so, they feel no genuine guilt or remorse, otherwise they would repent. This isn't the same as dropping the first bombs on civilians, there has been 70 years since those tragic events, and people know the consequences. So if they were to, they will do so knowing full well what they are doing. They are all set for when it does happen, they are protected, they have their luxury hideouts either underground or off planet.

I agree that hindsight is 20/20, but it is well known that the Japanese made overt overtures to the US for peace with that one precondition. Truman came into the Oval Office and wanted to send a tough message to the Soviets, and pressed ahead with the bombings for no other reason (IMHO and others). When the truth about the Japanese became known, I do verily believe Truman spent the rest of his years defending his decision.

Little to do with Kashmir, as you said...just felt the urge to correct the poster who stated the bombings were necessary and 'saved lives', contrary to conventional wisdom on the matter.

Let us pray we will not be dissecting an India/Pakistan exchange anywhere in the future...
