Better equipment I would definatly agree with. Smarter? none of us could really say. But the truth is that both Russia and the US could unfortunatly end the world if they wanted.

Well, we need to look at this from experience of how the military is set up. The Air Force, as far as ground troops who are combat MOS are maybe 15% of the active and reserves. This is guess work from experience. The Army and Marine Corps, the brunt of ground operations are about 75% combat MOS. The Navy have maybe the same as the Air Force. Then factor in air support which all branches have, except the Army I think, and the naval support and we still have a pretty solid standing military. And if you look at it this way, you could take the motto "Every Marine a rifleman" and bump the Corps up to 100% combat arms. But those numbers are manpower, not combat ready soldiers/airmen/marines/sailors.
