Reagan raised taxes, nearly tripled the deficit, GREW the federal government, gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants and when he cut taxes, unemployment grew to over 10%. I don't know that I would consider him a conservative president.

Source

In any case, we're living in very different times than Reagan times.
Pardon me sir but you are wrong about one thing... Reagan actually nearly quadrupled the deficit after he claimed he would do away with it in his first campaign... Remember? It was after his silly "There you go again, doom and gloom" speech during his debate with President Carter.... Some people like actors that spout out clever one liners more than those better suited to govern that tell it like it is..It was Carter that predicted us being in the position we are now in.... Even G.H.W. Bush called Reagan's "Trickle down" economic plan, "voo doo economics".

I know you were asking the question to another poster, but I thought I might chime in.

I believe this current administration has done too little in Job creation, and growth. Nada.

How many needy people could have been feed with the amount of money spent on his inauguration?

If Obama "cared" he would have started a works program, but he didn't. Period. If he can make executive actions and decisions on Gun Control, he could surely do this.......MHO

Something like the WPA would have all of the conservatives screaming socialism... There is nothing that any Democrat could do to please the Republicans... There really is little difference between the candidates.. After they are in office they play their role like good little children and live very well for the rest of their lives.

You're either contradicting yourself here or insinuating that the candidates cannot pleasure themselves.
Either there is a left/right paradigm and the party labels are meaningless tags on slaves to the same master, or there is a clear cut difference between the two and elections matter. Which is it?

I don't know if I could blame the president. Alot of 14,15,16 yr old get pregnant with guys who aren't ready t be tied down to them or take care of a child. Most just can't be faithful to one woman period. Point being children having children just makes more people who can't take care of themselves.I have a friend right now whose 26 5 kids and still lives with her dad. Ofcourse she didn't get pregnant that early but she wasn't to careful with who she was breeding with.So I can't blame the president.

Well aren't you chicken feces, taking what I said out of context... I stand by what I said... Yes, people are fooling themselves if they can't see how enslaved they are because they are constantly being told other wise... It has been a downhill ride for a long time but the hill got steeper in 1980 and we are at terminal velocity at this point... The left right idea is a sham you have bought into because it is what you've been conditioned to think.... Now go wave your flag and scream hallelujah.

In thinking about this some more, isn't it ironic that the picture you supplied, is more then likely from a nation in Africa, that receives money from the US, that is stolen from the tax payer, yet that child is still starving.
Nothing like Govt theft to provide nothing to nobody.

More humorous still than some dullards who fail to recognize these trends toward people being replaced by machines,is how the technology that costs people their jobs was fobbed off on them as a benefit to humanity.

"We have technology in the wings that will make your life easier, you should let us bring it out and use it." the kind of horsecrap BS the talking heads for the money power always spew forth.

Technology nearly always costs more than it saves in one way or another.Example:Automobiles, heart disease from lack of physical activity, nevermind the pollution produced from their manufacture and use,and then the utter carnage on the roadways worldwide...DUH!.

Any technology that makes this existence easier is welcomed,so long as the "great exploiters of all things" or "Capitalists" do not have ultimate control over that technology, which they do BTW.

Capitalism is fine and dandy unless it is allowed to infect every aspect of existence, there are limits to the benefits of all things, just look at our destroyed environment/world.Yes Virginia,it is destroyed.

As far as people on financial assistance/food stamps etc.,one must consider what this economy would look like without their consumption of goods and services,it would be a whole lot uglier, you think there is a problem with crime now?,consider people who cannot survive without taking what they need to do so.

Welfare protects the rich, and fobs the blame off onto the poor as far as the ignorant slave masses think, since the majority of people cannot think. They just think in the way they are conditioned to think.

The Exploiters are exploiting you.

Dullards.

I drifted off of my original reply to your post,I meant no offense to anyone personally.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I am not the one who said

There is nothing any Democrat could do to please the Republicans

Explain to me how my statement that there is a significant difference between conservatives and progressives in regards to policy is the left right sham, but your comment which relies on party labels rather than concrete political ideals is somehow above it all. Of course I believe that modern Democrats can please modern Republicans... the GOP leadership has shifted significantly to the left over the past 20 years. Real conservatives, politicians who were considered centrist conservatives in the 70s and 80s are portrayed as "far right wing" today. If identifying someone's clear confusion is "chicken feces" then I suppose cluck cluck cluck.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Excellent post! No offense taken!

Technology is a double edged sword. The problem is, we are in a transition phase. We are in new and uncharted territories now. We do not have accurate models of the current situation, as it has never existed before. Many technologies are growing at an exponential pace, rapidly changing the world, and accelerating.

The other side if this "explosion" will hopefully create a much better environment for our species.

Plz read and respond.

www.google.com...

How is obama supposed to interfere and stop this without angering the republicans and look as if he is "interfering with the ability of businesses to be profitable? If obama tried to order companies to cut tech and hire people, the entire right wing would scream that he was ruining americas ability to be competative.

So what is the solution to combat this that the right wont cry and moan about?

Who/what is building the technology infrastructure? China? Korea? India? Obama could start advocating protectionist policies which apply large tariffs to most imports, huge tax penalties to outsourcing, and tax incentives and breaks to technology corporations which hire Americans to design, develop, and manufacture the technology. It would be political suicide for any politician to publicly oppose protectionism. Notice Obama hasn't mentioned it even once and the media has carefully not pressed him on it. Bush, on the other hand, took the full brunt of it when many Americans were calling for protectionism during the initial collapse, loudly stating that protectionism wasn't the answer, etc. This is called falling on the sword. Protectionism doesn't fit within the guidelines of globalism, so I highly doubt out current globalist president would be any more willing to enact these measures than our previous globalist president was.
